Yea 747s are rare for me too. So I usually take as many as I can get while I have them over me. Usually cargolux stays east of me on their Dallas to Chicago flights. Must have been some weather some where to bring him right over this time.

Excellent captures as always, Scot. And I'm wondering if you can answer a question I have. Do you know what the photographic term "Camera Throw" means? (As in when a media directive states "Camera Throw 80 feet.") I've looked everywhere but all I can find is a reference to a camera ball that is thrown up in the air. I only have about 11 hours to find out if the media instruction applies to me or not. I was hoping you might know. Those two Air Force aircraft that are currently in your town are coming here tomorrow and I'm on the media access squad to meet them, but I have no idea what the "Camera Throw" restriction means so I don't know if it applies to me using my Canon camera.

If the eclipse had not been occurring, this shot would have been severely degraded for two reasons. Without the eclipse, the bright late morning sun would have created an intense reflection from the silver fuselage and it would also have generated high temps on the runway surface that would have resulted in heavy heat wave distortion. So from a photographic viewpoint, N905NN arrived here from DFW at the best possible time.

Aah, that Turtle logo! The little things we soon forget about! Keep 'em comin' Sam. There's also people on here who have never seen a DC8 or a Tristar. These are little time capsules into a bygone era, fantastic!

Thanks Sam, wasn't quite sure what I was looking at there with the black smoke off on a tangent like that but it's the remnant of the ring.
Nice catch Hunter!

Nice photo Sam. I've refueled this beauty many times at KATL many times in the late 80's. Those were the days.

Tiger airshows uses propane pyrotechnics and then flies through the smoke ring as a part of their act. They fly yak55m aircraft

Written on 2017/08/22 by sam kuminecz

Brian, I've uploaded over 2,500 old airliner photos. They are to bring back memories of a past era because many FA members flew, worked on, or saw them at some point in their life.

Written on 2017/08/22 by sam kuminecz

Brian Wilkes - Sam has previously uploaded quite a number of older historical airline and aircraft images from a collection of archived postcards as he owns.

As with this one, he always provides a forthright and full disclosure that the photo is scanned from a postcard... and hence, not his own creative photographic work.

At least to me, his contributions therein provide much visual enjoyment and added benefit to FlightAware's photo library.
