The agreement will allow Korean Air to sell tickets with its marketing flight number KE on the flights operated by China Airlines.
HONG KONG – Korean Air, the flag carrier of South Korea, has announced an extended codeshare agreement with China Airlines, increasing the flights offered by Korean Air between South Korea and Taiwan. Commencing 20th April 2015 flights will be added between Seoul and Kaohsiung and also between Busan and Taipei. The new codeshare agreement will commence on 20th April 2015, following regulatory approval.
A codeshare is an aviation business partnership whereby a flight operated by one airline, is jointly marketed by one or more other airlines. The agreement will allow Korean Air to sell tickets with its marketing flight number KE on the flights operated by China Airlines.
Prior to the extended agreement Korean Air, code sharing with China Airlines, offered a total of 25 flights per week on just the Seoul – Taipei route; fourteen flights operated by Korean Air and eleven flights operated by China Airlines. The new codeshare agreement will allow Korean Air to provide an additional twenty-one flights between South Korea and Taiwan (seven flights on the Seoul – Kaohsiung route and fourteen flights on Busan – Taipei route), offering more flexibility, convenience and choice to passengers.
In addition, members of Korean Air’s frequent flyer program Skypass will accumulate points when using the codeshare agreement to purchase Korean Air tickets for China Airlines flights.
Korean Air currently has codeshare partnerships on 195 routes with 33 airlines worldwide, including Air France, Aeromexico and China Southern. Korean Air will continue to expand opportunities for code share partnerships in order to provide the most convenient schedules for its passengers.
