An American Airlines Boeing 787-900, registration N828AA performing flight AA-48 from Dallas Ft. Worth,TX (USA) to Paris Charles de Gaulle (France) with 155 passengers and 12 crew, was enroute at FL350 about 160nm northeast of Quebec City,QC (Canada) when the crew declared emergency reporting a cracked left hand windshield. The crew descended the aircraft to FL230, reduced their airspeed and diverted to Chicago O'Hare,IL (USA) where the aircraft landed safely about 3:15 hours after leaving FL350.

The Canadian TSB reported the windshield as well as the window heat protection unit were replaced.
