Armed police were reportedly called as passengers reacted with fury when a British Airways flight from Heathrow was delayed for two days.

The flight to Las Vegas was supposed to set off at 4.40pm on Sunday, but following two aborted take-offs didn’t leave until Tuesday afternoon.

It was abandoned on Sunday due to a technical fault and on Monday due to a mix-up over baggage.

When the second flight was aborted seconds before take-off passengers, who had already been put up in hotels overnight, reportedly “went crazy”.

Police were called to meet the plane after concerned cabin crew alerted the cockpit.

A spokeswoman for BA confirmed police were called and said: “We fully appreciate how frustrating this experience has been, and have apologised to our customers for the long delay to their flight.

“We provided refreshments, hotel accommodation and help with expenses during the delay, and the flight departed yesterday.”

The flight finally departed on Tuesday afternoon.
