Good clip, but it annoys me quite a bit that they can't tell the difference between a jet and a prop plane.

Agreed... There are some difference between the 2.... Most notably the thingy up front that spins at a high rate of speed... Some of these reporters are idiots...

Maybe it would be safer if you are a doofis and cant tell between a prop and a jet aeroplane it would be safer to say Warbird. Or stick to reporting on football

"Jet" fighter? I think not.

This, is not a plane crash, like it shows on the video title.
It is called a belly landing...
It must be painful for the wallet of the owner of this beautifully flown aircraft
siriusloon
I believe it belongs to the Royal Navy's Historic Flight.

No criticism intended as the pilot clearly did a great job, but I suspect that had he lowered the u/c 5 seconds earlier it would have been "down and locked" rather than down.
Kudos to Chris for fantastic job in minimizing the damage to the airplane!

If it didn't lock, at least he hopefully would have had an indication that it wasn't. It does seem that he waited awful late to lower the gear. That is probably fairly standard for those old birds but like you, I still think he was a tad late. Don't really appear to be a malfunction, just not quite enough time for the cycle.

Excellent composure by the pilot, damn shame about the bird, and I expect nothing better journalistically from the Daily Mirror.

To those saying he lowered the landing gear late...I don't know a lot about this aircraft, but it looks like he was using the emergency gear down system. These systems often take a great deal of physical effort and time to complete the cycle, and the lowered gear adds drag to your glide in an engine failure scenario. These were probably luxuries he was not afforded in a low altitude airshow setting. His first and only priority is to make it to the runway without killing anyone. With that established, he should try to survive it himself. Once all that is assured, go ahead and make minimal attempts to save the aircraft if you can. Looks like that's exactly what he did. Let the insurance company worry about the plane. A great performance.

Hey, they got "classic" and "fighter" correct. Two out of three isn't bad when it comes to media accuracy.
sparkie624
Better than average... LOL

Well, at the back of our mind jet equals to turbine rather than a piston engine...
