United Airlines First 787 Painted, President Obama to Get A Tour

제출됨
United's first Boeing 787 Dreamliner has been fully painted, and will be toured by President Barack Obama! (yfrog.com) 기타...

LVMan777
Boeing is a Great Company..the 787 is a Great Airplane...United is a lousy airline!

I agree with this statement 100%
Wingscrubber
Obama needs to come tour the aircraft industry in Wichita Kansas. Maybe if he could see the jobs supported by 'fat cat' business aviation he might relent his attack on the industry.
n41hw
Thanks for explaining yourself. All I was pointing out was that I find it ironic that the president is touring the 787 publically and he is the same president that is trying to kill aviation.

That is all.
LVMan777
I presented the facts to back up my statement. Where are your "facts" that prove Obama is "trying to kill aviation"?
0525
Thank you webster24, lets hope Robert will watch it.
Daniel21486
Well northwest was the original launch customer for the 787 here in the US, but delta pushed that order back. It's nice to see the plane finally getting into service though!
rovinmoses
I love the 787, having toured Everett a couple years ago and examined the composite fuselage. I love Boeing and its history. Having said that, I am extremely disappointed in their decision to completely pull out of Wichita. They sold a big part of their plant to Spirit a few years ago, and now they took all of the jobs 'promised' when they recruited Wichita civic leaders to support a huge contract. Those workers must have been mad and sad to hear the President praise Boeing (counting on amnesia in Seattle to forget the move of headquarters to Chicago!). Having grown up in Wichita and seeing lines of B-47's on the ramp, the success of Boeing is now somewhat bitter sweet.
n41hw
Well said John, gotta love those signature FBO's. I avoid them like the plague and only go there when I have NO choice.

Ya agreed! But its only with ANA though. I think JAL will be the next. When do you think they'll get theirs? Also I heard Ethiopian Airlines will get their next month too, but I doubt it. When do you think they'll get theirs?

B-47s????? JESUS, YOU MUST BE OLDER THAN ME!!!
Pileits
Pileits 3
That was Continental that order this 1st bunch of 787s. United didn't order theirs till years later.
colinpayette
So, does it make the picture/story any less accurate? It's painted UNITED.
JetMech24
That was not the point of the discussion, please be quiet.
colinpayette
What discussion, exactly, are you referring to? Because all I see is a picture of a plane. Pileits comment is not a reply to any other comments. Jackass.
JetMech24
LOL, nice name calling, are you 12? Piletis's comments were added as a general statement to answer SWEATINTHSWAMP (the very first commentor) and myself (2nd commentor), he just didn't reply directly under us since it was just a general discussion. Now shush little one.
charlotte96
Where is this plane? Is it at the Charleston, SC factory? or one of the Seattle plants?
hobulheinrik
It is not painted yet. What you see is decals because you can still see the rings of where the fuselage portions came into play.
genethemarine
That's great.
And no funds for the west terminal or 9 Center here at ORD via the OMP.
n41hw
I have several but for one. Adding $100 per flight. It's called "user fees". You can look that up sinc you are a pilot. Should be easy for you to find.
n41hw
Look at how many people come to the states to fly because we do not charge per flight like other countries do. Only the rich fly in Europe. Your reply makes sense for the big jets but what about the little guys? I do not think you will continue flying your little bird if this passes. Also, will cause the sky's to become more dangerous.
n41hw
Robert, Just in case you missed what Bradley said, I'm gonna post it again below:

Robert, it always starts with "Just the Rich", or "It's someone else, so I don't have to worry about it." Have you ever opened the door, intending to hold it open for only one person, and 5 more come along? This is EXACTLY how this sort of thing works. There's a very good reason that the GA caucus in Congress (D's & R's) are very concerned about this, as is AOPA, and every other organization I can think of.
NF2G
No wonder the 787 is so fuel efficient - no engines! LOL.
racerman
Obama will not tour the SC factory, as it is non-union. The "fat cats and their corporate jets" are important parts of his class warfare strategy for re-election.Besides, who would want to fly to SC when you can fly to Seattle at someone alse's expense?
JimmyZ777
How does the POTUS visiting a factory become such a political issue? It is an honor whenever any President visits your location. The security is also a real pain in the ass....
thehillnl
He picking out his Air Force one for his second term!
dwmcguire
Wonderful, A United Airlines Airliner painted in Continental's colors. So much for competition in the free market. Nice plane though.
salk
regardless of politics - this is a gorgeous plane - Go Boeing!!!
planeaholic
When Republicans cut their own taxes it's called "trickle down economics." When Democrats (for the record, I am NEITHER) want to make the rich pay a little more, it's "class warfare." Real mature of you. Maybe you haven't noticed, but the rich aren't hurting as much as the middle class right now, genius. How about those Bush tax cuts, eh? They really got the economy rolling....At least enough for him to take more vacations than any other President "at someone else's expense."

Sorry this went political, but sometimes I refuse to let idiotic remarks go without a retort.
AerospaceAirAviation
Z W 1
It was in Everett.
AerospaceAirAviation
Z W 2
I didnt see that until now. Sorry about that! Thanks for the extra info! :)
NF2G
So do I. Bush vacations, I suppose, are far worse than Obama parties, eh?
planeaholic
More costly than Obama's parties, and more frequent. I wasn't even that upset about GWB's vacations, but to claim that Obama's behind "class warfare" and then insinuate that he is the exception when it comes to flying "at someone else's expense" is absurd.

Quote "Submitted by Bullfrog on February 15, 2012.""Let's see, these guys are burning 100 to 300 gallons/hour at at least $5/hour. The typical flight is perhaps 2 hours so that's about $2,000 for fuel and probably the same in other operating costs. $100 is going to be a major burden? Take a look at the jet traffic at the Superbowl or the Masters. Are they really going to stop flying their Challengers due to a $200 charge. I know corporate aviation and many times there is one or two people on board for a $10,000 flight. Let's get real."

n41hw
“All piston aircraft, military aircraft, public aircraft, air ambulances, aircraft operating outside of controlled airspace, and Canada-to-Canada flights would be exempted.”

This is only the beginning. It will trickle down to the little guys too. Just wait.
LVMan777
If you can afford a $5 million twin jet and $1000 an hour fuel bills pay the government for those 10,000-15,000 foot runways you are landing on that are smooth as glass. Don't be a cheap rich man who won't pay his way. Stop freeloading on other people.
n41hw
What are you talking about? I'm a little guy flying my piston around and am seeing that I will be paying for every Ifr flight I make. Obviously you are not worried about $100 per IFR flight. So, I guess that makes you rich.
bjohnsonmn
Robert, it always starts with "Just the Rich", or "It's someone else, so I don't have to worry about it." I'VE SAID IT BEFORE, AND I'LL SAY IT AGAIN;" SINCE HAVING SERVED IN SAC, I WILL NEVER BELIEVE A GODDAMNED THING THE GOVERNMENT TELLS ME!"
0525
Robert those 10,000-15,000 foot runways are paid by taxes, so you want more? Lets add $100 boat and yacht fees to all those who sail on man made lakes and canals and ports. Lets make it fair and talk how hard golf courses are on the environment, with all the fertilizers and chemicals that wash down stream, lets tack 100 dollars a round on them, we all know golfers are rich too. right? lets tack 100 dollar fees for posting to this site, aviation enthusiasts must have money. What about hot rodders, those guys that sink 25,000 dollars on a car that they only drive on a weekends when its nice, lets tack 100 dollars on them, they have money too. Lets make it fair to the "want to be" Harley Riders that spend 30,000 on a bike 2,000 on leathers for the wife and only ride 300 miles before they sell it, they can chunk out a 100 fee. I could go on and on of all kinds of fees for activitys that people do that can be contrived frivolous but hopefully you got the point. Robert the truth is we all pay alot in taxes and the 3% of the richest people pay just as much as the other 97% do combined, and don't ask me to qoute my resorce you can find it yourself. I really do not care about the rich guys and i am more concerned for the poor, and yes I do take action to help out those in need... If we all paid 100 flight fee, do you think the GOV will spend it wisely? and it would only be a matter of time before they would make more aviation taxes and fees. Question for you. do you work for Signature fbo aviation services, because I would like my 10 bucks back for that small bag of ice you gave me after I had you pump 43,000 pounds of jet-A on a quick turn. Go ahead and keep the ramp fee and the tie down fee and the ground handling fee and the landing fee that the airport does not impose but you guys add on just so you can collect another fee. Yours truly, Joe pilot

Continental had an arrangement with Boeing to be their exclusive aircraft provider. The 787's were ordered by Continental.
JetMech24
I believe that UA was to be the the domestic launch customer.
jeturner
Continental is the domestic launch customer.......receiving 4 aircraft this year, with 2 more deliveries possible, all to be flown by legacy Continental pilots until a joint CBA is ratified by the combined pilot groups.
JetMech24
Thanks.

Obama tried to shut Boeing's South Carolina factory down - now he's a Boeing fan?
mauileen
Just Another photo op for Obama to add to his re-election resume....you will see thisvisit on his re-election site with him taking credit.
planeaholic
They all do it, Dear. Doesn't matter which party; it's called "politics." At least he has a real functioning and profiting factory to take pictures in. Remember GW Bush's backdrop of "Made in America" boxes that turned out to be made in China?
julianjim
It says it right on the sign,"AN AMERICA BUILT TO LAST",Not Obummer another 4 years! Now how much $$$ did us tax payers spent for him to fly just for no good reason?
LVMan777
Worst major airline...terrible logo
SWEATINTHSWAMP
Was that ordered by CO or UA? Or both prior to merger?
n41hw
Who really cares that our president that is trying to kill general aviation toured United Airlines 787?

Knock off the Tea Bag lies...This is not the place for your crap!
0525
Robert, he bailed out the banks, the auto industry, but insulted the aviation industry in one of his speeches by commenting on how corporate fat cats are flying off in the sunset with your money. Several flight departments shut the doors and sold the planes after that statement. He also scoffed at GM and Chrysler automotive industry leaders for flyng to a meeting asking for bail out money "aircraft are a useful business tool". He also wanted to raise taxes on aircraft manufactures, when some of them could have used a bail out too. Wichita KS the aircraft manufacturer of the world is starting to look like Detroit. and Mr. Robert Harrington please refrain from swearing on this good web site, my childern and myself like to look at this site and enjoy the articles and photos. The use of the term Tea Bag refers to a lued act I think "they" would perfer to be called Tea Party. I checked your profile and notice that you are a student pilot, congrats on that, welcome to the aviation community we are a respectful group of people and we encourage others act accordingly.

Just like you saying united is the worst airline. Pot calling the kettle black I would say.
LVMan777
America's Meanest Airlines: 2011

#1. United Airlines (Worst Major Carrier)

AQR Score: -1.31

United had the worst AQR score among major airlines with a -1.31, with customer service as its Achilles' heel. According to the AQR report, United had the second-highest customer complaint rate in 2010 with 1.64 complaints reported per 100,000 passengers. United had the unfortunate distinction of placing second on Business Insider's "The 18 Worst Companies in America" list. High baggage fees haven't helped the company's image.
Domestic Baggage Fees
1st Bag: $25
2nd Bag: $35
3rd Bag: $100
Overweight/Oversized Bags
51-70 lbs: $100
71-99.9 lbs: $200 (up $100 from last year)
Larger than 62 inches: $100

Robert, you do not like these fees, but like the idea of 100 a flight fee? hhmmm?

Have you ever flown US Scareways, now that's a crapy airline!
tarbaby
Who gives a rats ass.........thats news?? Gee whiz! How about some GOOD news that makes a difference for the American people!
allankuh
I agree,,,whole ass heartly,,phil`s right-on. Good news for the AMERICAN PEOPLE...this fool has no idea what`s too do.......
jeturner
these aircraft are being built by AMERICAN workers (union or not) at an AMERICAN corporation for an AMERICAN company flying to serve the AMERICAN public as it's primary customers with an aircraft that is superbly efficient to ANY others....in the present day economy with jobs being hard to find, that is GOOD news. I agree it is a political move by the President to visit the factory. That's not anything new. They have all done the same thing, working the angles in the public eye. I will always have GREAT respect for the OFFICE of the president. I disagree that the current resident has my best interests in mind. His visit is purely politics in the media...
allankuh
When`s it mine turn???????????????
