Powered Flight Deck of Space Shuttle Endeavour

제출됨

These rare photos capture the Flight Deck (cockpit) of the Space Shuttle Endeavour, fully powered for one of the final times. Just a few weeks later, at 9:58am EDT on May 11, Endeavour was powered down for the final time in history. It was the last of the three space shuttles to have power. Was lucky enough to see the Endeavour close up at the California Science Center LA, while touring USA from Australia. Truely awesome, incredible to be so close to this aircraft, knowing it had been into space and return 25 times. Such a shame, end of an era. Great picture of the cockpit. Thanks

We now have more important "social" programs to spend our money on. A space program doesn't buy as many votes as free everything for everybody. :-(

With the the closure of the Shuttle program it was the first time in my lifetime the USA had NO space program. And I was born in 1960..
ON the day the Shuttle landed for the last time, this country went from "Can do" to "why should we"...Sad....

What a beautiful machine....and we just got rid of them with no practical replacement in sight.

Outstanding photos. Thanks for posting. Got to see the Endeavour in its new home at the California Science Museum in November. They did a great job setting it up. Very moving to see it in person. Everyone there was very respectful including many many kids on field trips for LA schools. Too bad it will never fly again.

Very nice photos, very nice classic space/aircraft, I would love to have one parked out in my back yard to have as my "Mancave"

For as little time as the crew has to set in them 'under gravity'... it's not too bad. The remainder of the time, they are folded and out of the way! :)

That is nice... Seats don't look to comfortable however.

With the nose pointed straight up and in those flight suits, how do they get in those seats?
onceastudentpilot
we must also remember that their flight suits were pretty bulky; they probably didn't even feel how hard they truly were.
