Heathrow closed after engine fire leads to an emergency landing

제출됨

Looks like a British Airways A318 or A319. A witness says it was an A319 headed for Oslo. "Both runways are currently closed. All passengers & crew have been safely evacuated from an aircraft which is on the northern runway." "Air traffic controllers said the airport was closed to all arrivals following the incident, which happened just after 8 a.m. local time (3 a.m. ET)." (worldnews.nbcnews.com) 기타...

Here's a link with some video from inside the airplane as it landed. Click on the right video box that shows the left engine (the working one) with parts of its cowling missing.

Clearly, the use of the video camera in violation of the electronics ban blew the cowling off the engine. Another clear cut example of why the ban needs to be enforced.

I read that on BBC early this morning. The pilot knew of the problem, informed his passengers, and took appropriate actions. I noted that BBC did use data from FlightAware, and gave proper credit.

Everybody knows about the fr..ken latch cowl issue.

The story gets better every time it's told. I suppose a week from now the media will be telling us that the engines ate the cowlings because Ronald McDonald had lunch at Taco Bell.

Why is this showing up on current squawks? It's from 5.5 years ago.

I'm wondering the same thing. And it's not the only 5-year-old Squawk.

Tis an A319.

News is that both engines had the cowling clips left open, cowlings flew off both engines and damaged a fuel and hydraulic line on the right engine.

Rather serious accident. There is a picture of the incident: http://www.airliners.net/photo/British-Airways/Airbus-A319-131/2264340/&sid=6c8788e8d8a3367d27fdb8dd2c9ef26c

#1 is the BIGGEST reason lol. Tomorrows headline: "Airbus aircraft are being grounded due to the fact they are made by Airbus." Airbus CEO replies, "I know pilots hate our aircraft for being dangerous, but we're French, we can't help it. We surrender!"

Very true - electronic devices destroy planes in the sky (eyeroll).

A GUESS THAT MX WORKED THE ACFT THE NIGHT BEFORE AND LEFT THE FAN COWLS UNLATCHED. THE ENGINES SIT LOW AND THE LATCHES ARE HARD TO SEE. THE CREW POSSIBLY MISSED THEM ON THE PREFLIGHT. POSSIBLY ONE OF THE COWLS WHEN IT BROKE FREE HIT A FUEL OR HYDRAULIC LINE CAUSING A FIRE.
