I recall an Eastern pilot telling the passengers to lift their feet at take off to lighten the weight but I was never asked to assist with the push back.

“It was minus 52. The plane had stood on the runway for 24 hours and the pilots forgot to take off the parking brake. That caused the brake pads to freeze up,“ he said.Passengers pushed the plane until it was able to turn and then the tow truck took over, he said. The flight then took off and went smoothly .

Watch: Passengers "push-start" frozen plane in Siberia.

Passengers on board a Tu-134 had to go out and help with the pushback after the freezing of its brake pads due to extreme low temperatures. The plane departed with (almost) no delay.

Did fliers really get out and 'push' frozen Russian jetliner?

Video that appears to show passengers dislodging a frozen Russian plane is making the rounds on social media and in various news outlets.

In its report, The Associated Press writes the "Russian-made Tu-134 with 74 oil workers and seven crew members onboard was due to fly from the town of Igarka on Tuesday to Krasnoyarsk 800 miles to the south when the plane froze to the ground. It was -52 C (-61 F) outside and the passengers seemed desperate to get home."

Passengers get to push the plane in the cold

MOSCOW (AP) -- In other countries, you may be asked to give a push to a car stuck in the mud. In Russia, passengers in the Arctic came out of an airliner to the bitter cold to help it move to the runway. Russian prosecutors say a Tu-134 due to fly from the Artic town of Ingarka on Tuesday to Krasnoyarsk 800 miles (nearly 1,300 kilometers) to the south got stuck when its chassis brakes got frozen. It was -52 C (-61 F) outside and the passengers, most of whom are likely to be oil workers, seemed desperate to get home. An amateur video posted online showed several dozen men pushing the plane by leaning on both wings until it moved. The prosecutors launched a probe into a possible breach of safety regulations.

Flyers step out to push frozen plane in Siberia

Siberian air passengers had to get out and push their plane in temperatures of minus 52 degrees Celsius after its chassis froze, Russian prosecutors said on Wednesday .
The extraordinary story emerged after a passenger posted a video on YouTube showing a group of cheery travellers pushing the Tupolev plane on a snow-covered runway in Igarka, beyond the Arctic Circle.
“Let's go,“ passengers in thick winter coats shout as they put their hands on the wings and shove it several metres. Transport prosecutors in Siberia said they were investigating the incident, which took place on Tuesday .

Over 70 passengers 'push' frozen plane to runway
