After seven years, exactly one person gets off the gov’t no-fly list

제출됨

A hearing in federal court Tuesday has apparently marked the conclusion of a drawn-out, costly, and, to use the judge’s own term, “Kafkaesque” legal battle over the government no-fly list. Malaysian college professor Rahinah Ibrahim sued the government back in 2006, after Dr. Ibrahim’s name mistakenly ended up on a federal government no-fly list. (arstechnica.com) 기타...

Always found it curious. A person can't fly but he can walk around among us, go to the mall, go to movies, buy a car, own a home....but fly on a plane...No way. Just seems totally stupid. If you are on the "no fly list" you should be on the "not in the USA list" too.

And you forgot that, barring an actual criminal record or other adverse information, BUY A FIREARM!!!

And CARRY IT THROUGH SCREENING!!!

There should be an avenue of recourse. Everyone makes mistakes (note not "can make mistakes", but "will make mistakes") and there should be some method to correct those mistakes.

This is the embedded link to the judges order. Interesting, if slow going.

Maybe I read it wrong, but, Summary judgement was sought because she could not prove she was on the no-fly list. TSA refused her request for acknowledgement that she was on the list because, as Sensitive Security Information (SSI), they do not divulge that information. That she was prevented from flying because of her name on the no-fly list doesn't count.

Something wrong with this picture?

I would say something but I don't want to be on the no-fly list... (Did you get that NSA and TSA and FBI?)

Probably a good idea! Lol. I will say that since she was not a US citizen her case doesn't bother me. Foreigners should be highly scrutinized and not necessarily afforded the same rights as citizens. That said, US citizens should have an avenue of recourse.

The major problem with that would be foreign flight crews who get mistakenly put on the list, and when the recourse is slow, then there's the reciprocation...

Apparently hasn't been a problem since nobody else has ever gotten off. Foreign pilots that make the list would especially probably never get off.

Hi, I have a very common name. For years when I flew outside of the country of the USA. The counter person would scan my passport, have an odd look in their eyes and say to me.. "I'll be back in a minute." about 5 minutes later they would return. "OK, you're fine." No explanation.. -- oh Oh liked the "There should be a No Driving List".. ha ha

And, this is another reason why I do not nor will I ever trust our government.

Some need to be on no car list as well.

There is another way to get off it be a politician. I am sure many of you recall Ted Kennedy was on it and he had no problem getting off the list. Yet the brain dead fools at TSA have children on it. TSA needs to be shut down they have not done a single thing since their inception to stop a threat. They only molest and stop law abiding citizens

I would like to comment, but by doing so I may end up being on the "no fly" list! Oh, what do, what to do? So much for the "American Way" of justice!
