Indian women pilots soar past global avg
Ground realities may be harsh for women in In dia, but they're still determined to conquer the skies. Almost 600 of the 5,050 pilots in Indian airlines are women, according to Directorate General of Civil Aviation data.At 11.6%, this is way above the 3% global average estimated by the International Society of Women Airline Pilots. India is also seeing a steady rise in women pilots annually . The last five years saw 4,267 commercial pilots' licences being issued, of which 628 or 14.7%… (epaperbeta.timesofindia.com) 기타...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
As was evidenced by the culture in Asiana 214, Daily Indian culture must be vacated when they step into the cockpit. CRM must take over.
Indian media is not as aviation savvy as the west. And couple with it my limitation. Result, fairly limited info about Indian Aviation. But going by what ever limited reporting that occurs here, I haven't come across any CRM related problems of the kind you mentioned. What ever happens is generally at large scale, trade union kind !
I think it is admirable and says a lot that a woman can get the training to commence with. My point with the CRM is that when they step into the cockpit, they are no longer a woman but an airline pilot and must be treated as such by their male counterparts. While not as bad as it used to be in times past, there are still quarters of Indian society in which the woman is still very much 2nd class as in them Muslim world rather than equal to the men. Please correct me if I am wrong about this.
Things are changing fast here. And now , Indian women face similar dilemmas and problems as their sisters in the USA. In a profession sex has no role to play. Be it management/administration or engineering, architecture , flying and on ! Being second class , it's same every where. Let us not forget, it's still a man's world. East or west. Hindus, Muslims or Christians. Society frames two different sets of rules based on sex. Boys can stay out till late but not the girls ! Isn't it so ? Rape is still committed on a woman and not on a man. Or at least not as often ! Even incidence of sexual harassment at work place is more on women . And in general areas, woman is the only and sole victim. Never a man.
My apologies if I digressed. Though I tried not to.

No problem on the digression. LOL. You are correct on the other. Thanks for the societal correction.
U R welcome , my friend.
