Unless there was a fuel leak, there's no reason to divert. That's the main reason for having FOUR engines.

Maybe but safety comes first they don't want a catastrophic explosion in mid air. The A380's have not being fully tested to even fly on one engine to date according to Airbus the big tub was not designed to fly on one engine.

Wait a minute. They flew 4 hours outbound and returned 4 hours inbound on THREE engines?

"turned around and returned to Dubai for a safe landing about 4 hours after departure"
I quote the article.
sueridge307
Are you sure they flew on three engines? can that be verified. Still it has not out done the big Queen of the skies record on one engine I think to date this big heavy is more in weight compared to the Boeing 747
royhunte92
A380 is above heavy category, FAA designated it Super.
yr2012
It's a super heavy - designated by FAA/ICAO/IATA. The entire flight is only six hours, yet they flew for eight on three engines.

I think it was only 4 hours, 2 out & 2 back.

Try to read for comprehension. Number of hours, number of engines, etc. are all spelled out.
yr2012
I hope not. Certainly certified on three.

The Boeing 747B was the only wide multi engine jet tested in flight using one engine and proved to be reliable and successful

You and Andrew ain't spent much time in FAR part 25 have you. That's aircraft certification. Then there are type certificate data sheets and if you knew what that meant the last two posts would not be here. It's not about arrogance, it's about the misinformation.

Mate you don't know what your talking about except rubbish and crap I have being in the airline business well over 25 years and seen watched each and every aircraft come off the production line at both Boeing and Airbus Being employed by the plane maker Boeing from the early 747b-100's So don't give me you crap
Highflyer1950
Maintenance base at DXB.

The flight is normally about 6 hours.
