It's called a telegram window or telegram door. Originally For passing weather updates to pilots without shutting down. Started in 1920s. You'll see it on aircraft like the Cherokee and some Beechcraft too
Passenger checklist so the captain can calculate the weight. Notice the rust from the windscreen wiper.
