HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu police continue to investigate the discovery of a body near a runway at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.

Transportation officials say the body was discovered around noon Saturday near the reef runway.

Homicide detectives are investigating, however details are unclear. Sources tell Hawaii News Now it appears the body was a stowaway in a plane.

Sources also say the body had severe injuries to his head and legs. Surveillance images reportedly shows an aircraft taking off from the runway around 11:45 a.m. Saturday. Not long after, something appears to tumble onto the runway near where the victim was found.

The DOT temporarily closed the runway for the investigation. It has since reopened. Investigators are still trying to determine whether the man fell from an aircraft, or was struck by one.

The person has not yet been identified.
