Thousands of Delta Air Lines' Salt Lake City employees will share millions of dollars when the carrier hands out profit-sharing checks Thursday.
About 3,500 people stationed at Delta's hub at Salt Lake City International Airport will receive a total of $15,723,148, Russell Cason, a spokesman for the Atlanta-based carrier, said Wednesday.
What each employee receives depends on his or her annual earnings. But the average amount per person will be around $4,500.
It's all part $372 million in earned profit-sharing going out to most of Delta's 80,000 employees. Individual payouts equal 6.67 percent of eligible compensation last year.
Profit-sharing depends on what Delta earns. Last year, it banked a net profit of $1 billion, up sharply from $854 million in 2011 on higher fares and fees.
Passenger revenue rose 5 percent, to $31.8 billion , the airline said last month.
Through the third quarter, Delta was the No. 1 airline for baggage fees, collecting $668.2 million from passengers.
The 18 percent net income gain gave Delta room to increase its profit-sharing. The amount it set aside for 2012 was 41 percent higher than in 2011.
