MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO (KTVI) – A Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the circumstances surrounding a single-engine plane making an emergency landing on the Page Avenue Extension in Maryland Heights.

The harrowing incident occurred just before 9 p.m. Monday on eastbound Highway 364. Two lanes of the highway were blocked for some time while authorities worked to move the plane to the side of the roadway. It was later towed to the Creve Coeur Airport, just off of Highway 141.

Two people were aboard the aircraft, a fixed-wing Piper built in 1978, at the time of the incident. The plane had departed Mexico, Missouri just after 8 p.m. en route to the Creve Coeur Airport to practice takeoff and landing exercises.

Investigators said the plane experience engine failure shortly after one of those takeoffs, forcing the pilot to look for the best place to land.

No one was injured in the incident.
