Report: Drone came dangerously close to Blue Angels during Detroit flyover

A drone flew dangerously close to the Blue Angels during their flyover of Detroit to salute essential workers.

Camera drone footage shows a small drone coming close to the six F/A-18 Hornets during their loop over southeast Michigan on Tuesday. The video was posted to Youtube and showed several angles of the Blue Angels, including one where the aircraft appeared extremely close to the camera, according to a report from The Aviationist. 

The video was reportedly published on Instagram and Facebook under the tag @giolucia.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules for drone camera operation includes “Do not operate your drone in a careless or reckless manner,” reports The Aviationist. Any drone operation for commercial use requires a license.

Detroit was one of the Blue Angel's three flyover destinations Tuesday. The "America Strong" flights by the Navy's Blue Angels and the Air Force's Thunderbirds are visiting cities across the country.
