Emirates Trims US Flights After Trump Administration Curbs

Emirates, the Middle East's biggest airline, said on Wednesday that it is cutting flights to the United States because of a drop in demand caused by heightened U.S. security measures and Trump administration attempts to ban travelers from Muslim-majority nations. ( 기타...

Emirates is just covering up the drop in business that started well before last fall's election. Their attempt to flood the market with government-backed cheap fares has not worked, so they're looking for a scapegoat. And Etihad says it has seen no drop in its U.S. business recently, another sign that Emirates' move is driven by economics instead of politics.
Yep, it's always the" bottom line" that's the decision driver.
Amen to that.
What EK does has seemed inscrutable for the last many years. Doubtless a few egos ran amok in garnering attention with ordering more A380's than they ever reasonably needed - one can make a case for propping up any prognosis if you crunch the numbers you like long enough. That much said, making Dubai the hub it is has been a meritorious accomplishment, if not the stuff of miracles. And Trump's cynical moves in furtherance of Islamophobia in support of his chewing tobacco base was never going to result in good stuff. Confluence of narcissism, opportunism and idiocy.
Gotta laugh. Emirates had been asking Seattle to build an A380 capable gate, which they have refused to do. Turns out Emirates couldn't even fill two 777's for Seattle. I always wondered just how many people were itching to go from Seattle to Dubai, anyway. I understand most of them were headed for India, but still...You can't blame this on an ineffective executive order and the inability to bring laptops aboard. Sheesh!

Why not?
Because this has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with economics. If it did have to do with politics, Etihad would be complaining about losses too.

looks like it is only a temporary cut Emirates' US flight cut 'not permanent'
From the article:
Jill Zuckman, a spokeswoman for the "Partnership for Open & Fair Skies" campaign opposing more U.S. routes for the Gulf carriers, was quick to seize on Emirates' decision.

"The fact is, market demand has never played a role when the Gulf carriers decide where to fly. It is well known that the Gulf carriers, including Emirates, lose money on most of their flights to the United States and are propped up by billions of dollars in government cash," she said.

Down to 101 from 126 flights. I guess this means 20% fewer money losing flights. Perhaps the 80% are somewhat fuller now.
These are Terrorists funders, let them rot in their skies.

What measures? Hamfisted bans on arbitrary swaths of people and inanimate objects?

You are defending the work of a moron.
If their countries had protected the USA from the extremists, the world would not have known about the 17th son of Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden.
You are correct, these American hating countries need to clean up their mess in their own countries.

You are thoroughly dumb. Congratulations.

You might be forgetting that the US has banned laptops on these flights. Thus, who in their right mind would take these routes?

BTW: How is the travel ban working out for YOU?
Then why is Etihad not seeing the same revenue loss?

Mr. LaMay:

1). It turns out all of the Gulf airlines are experiencing revenue loss (

2). Etihad is providing complementary laptops to use for business and first class customers (

3). Etihad is governed by a board of directors chaired by Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The sheikh is a member of the ruling family of Abu Dhabi (Al Nahyan). The operational model might be a bit different than Emirates, but at the end of the day, they are both government entities.

Know any terrorists that originate from the UAE?

I thought so!
2 actually. But the UAE wasn't even a part of the travel ban, so your strawman is irrelevant.

Mr. LaMay. Where the heck are you getting your information from?

Dubai was one of 10 cities in Muslim-majority countries affected by a ban on laptops and other personal electronics in carry-on luggage aboard US-bound flights (
And fewer terrorists.
