Hawaii-Based F-22s Scrambled On FAA's Request But Nobody Will Say Why

A pair of F-22 Raptors were launched on an alert scramble out of Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam on Sunday at around 4:00 PM local time. A third F-22 joined the mission about an hour after pair's departure. A KC-135 was also launched to support the fighters. If it was at the request of the FAA, I'd suggest that it was something that had or was believed to be happening on a civil airliner. The FAA don't do air defence.

The F-35s are in Alaska, in Utah, in Arizona, in Florida, in Japan... to name a few places. But not in Hawaii. So, hence, you scramble the F-22s that ARE in Hawaii, to respond to a "threat" near... Hawaii.

F-35s are entirely too noisy to be allowed in Hawaii air space. Played golf on vacation next to the L-M plant in FtW. You could really tell when one of the F-35s would light up vs F-18s or F-16s.

Those planes woke me up on a regular basis in '05 when they would leave the Lockheed Martin plant at Dobbins ARB for their first flight. I would be ready for them when they returned, with my camera.
