American Airlines crammed the only 11 passengers on a flight into 3 rows because they only bought basic economy, report says

Despite having only 11 passengers on an otherwise empty flight, because they had purchased Basic Economy tickets, FA’s refused to move them as that would be considered an “upgrade”. FA’s later relented, overriding policy. (www.msn.com) 기타...

Horrible customer service.. in times were in.. the captain should have moved them up to first class in the name of just old fashioned good will..

well, the reason airlines are supposed to put people together in a certain place, whether first class or coach, used to be for weight and balance if there was a problem..with only 11 people on the flight, and the corona virus being a serious issue,it seems to me they would have spaced the people far aprt from the front of the aircraft to the back, where each person had 3 seats or an entire row or two to themmselves..to say the 11 people were crammed together in the back of the airplane due to the cost of their tickets is sheer idiocy and says a lot about airline management when at this time they are crying because of a lack of passengers...

Yes.. Weight and Balance is an important issue... But Spacing them out, should have alleviated that issue... So I would have thought... But then again, the computers that program where people are to sit or not sit does not take into account health related issues. So in this case, the crew or dispatcher may have had to do some simple math...

"A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds." I thought Flight Attendants were supposed to be smarter than that.

Your First Mistake... Thinking of what they are supposed to do.... This day and time... Well, nothing surprises me... The Less Stupid it is, the more it surprises me! :)

While the source of the report was MSN - it came from Mother Jones, not exactly a stellar source of unbiased news reporting.

Not taking sides one or another, I believe that American's answer to the request for comment was correct: "it could not confirm or deny the account without a specific flight number" which was not available.

OK, an action like this is clearly unforgivable, given the circumstances. I am curious, though, what type of aircraft is was. A 737 is going a lot more flexibility in spreading passengers around than, say, a regional jet. Could the crew have gotten overly concerned about weight and balance requirements (seems unlikely to me, but I'm not a pilot), or was it just a case of "blind obedience to corporate policy?" Either way, it seems highly irresponsible to me.

A definite lack of common sense... But then again.... Common Sense died a long time ago... I posted this some time back... This one is worthy of it as well... http://www.getipm.com/personal/common-sense.htm

I really agree about your article on the death of common sense. Parents can't even reprimand their kids with a well-aimed kick up the rear end! As a result kids these days are inconsiderate, don't respect their elders and it's all about "Poor me"!

That is why I fly Southwest. I decide why to sit, not a computer.

just a dumb computer where the programmer (or the requirements analyst) never envisaged a scenario of 11 passengers and no one silly enough to pay more.
Good to see reasonable humans applied some common sense.

OMG !!!! What is happening in our Airline World !!!! Thank goodness someone had some sense ? and got them moved apart. I am almost speechless here.
