Air India Express 737-800 Carrying Crashed at Kozhikode

IX344 Flight skids off runway during landing.

Air India Express 344, IX344 departed from Dubai (DXB), United Arab Emirates and arriving at Kozhikode (CCJ), India to repatriate Indians effected due to COVID-19. The plane slipped off the runway, due to wet conditions on runway, resulting in the death of the Pilot and total loss of the aircraft. Our sincere condolences to the Pilots and their families. RIP, Salut'

This is one of those 'table top' airports with 35-40 ft drop on either side of the runway. Landing long combined with torrential rain is a recipe for disaster. More people would have died if the aircraft caught fire after landing, but luckily that did not happen. Sad to hear that both pilots are dead.

To borrow from Sherlock Holmes: “It is hazardous to theorize in advance of the facts.” I’ll await the report from the Indian investigators.

An Air India Express (IX) 737-800 (VT-AXH) has overrun the runway upon landing at Kozhikode (CCJ), India

Initial information indicates the plane over ran the runway and dropped into a valley. The nose of the aircraft separated and at least two dead including a pilot.
