Airliner Encountered Unidentified Fast-Moving Cylindrical Object Over New Mexico

제출됨

American Airlines Flight 2292, an Airbus A320 flying between Cincinnati and Phoenix on February 21st, 2021, had a bizarre close encounter with what its crew described as a "long cylindrical object that almost looked like a cruise missile" moving extremely fast over the top of their aircraft as it cruised along at 36,000 feet and 400 knots. The incident occurred over the remote northeast corner of New Mexico, to the west of the tiny town of Des Moines. Steve Douglass, an experienced… (www.thedrive.com) 기타...

Over New Mexico? No doubt it was a weather balloon.
ScottHickman
More likely it was a Convair 990.

I see what you did there. ;-}

I think airliners need dash cams.

Much of the dialog in "Airplane!" was lifted directly from the 1957 film "Zero Hour!". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero_Hour!

I remembered zero Hour when Airplane first came out. It was actually based on a book I had read. But Airplane was hilarious.

I live very near that military zone, and we get VTOLs, Blackhawks, and the occasional fighter jets flying over regularly. Lots of wide open space, mesas and canyons to play around, and very little commercial traffic. They could be testing or practicing with just about anything.

The most plausible but leas fun explanation. :-)

Why is it always in New Mexico?

Yeah, the 'selfie' with the object behind the pilot's face. It's 'un-today-like' to not have a selfie with whatever the subject is in the background.

something out of Holloman air base, no doubt

You know, the Martian Government is getting tired of having to conjure up plausible explanations to the Martian people for all the spacecraft we're sending there. Methinks they are trying to get back at us by sending us a few spacecraft of their own!

I read that lots of similar incidents have occurred, but pilots are unwilling to risk embarrassment so they stay quiet. It would help if they filed NASA ASRS or posted anonymously on media tailored to this issue. Single reports are too unverifiable, but combined, a clearer picture could emerge. Giving pilots more legitimacy in reporting unidentified objects would also help.

Can American confirm the plane was not flying over a restricted space? Maybe 3 or 4 years ago, American was flying over restricted airspace (Arizona or Nevada--can't remember now). Bases let airlines know when they are testing missiles so planes don't fly over as a missile is being tested.
jbsimms
That would help immeasurably........

It was probably the new hyper-contagious "flying" corona strain meant to keep everyone locked down until 2024.

Yeah, because the "deregulate everything" BS worked really well for the Texas electric grid. Buy wholesale, takes your chances, chumps, and better get a second or third job to pay off the $9000 light bill. LOL!

perhaps jobs associated with the "green new deal" will not only outpace those associated with the declining technology (oil and gas) but provide even greater opportunities for the future. And hey, the weather works in your favour! (#3 state in terms of sunlight/year (76%) Get the governor working to get solar-based industry into your state.

Yeah, because the "green new deal" BS worked really well in Texas a week ago...
rbdancer
There is no "green new deal" yet. It's a proposal. Texas didn't winterize its wind turbines any better than it winterized its natural gas systems, which were the main things that failed. Get a grip.
