EgyptAir Jet Emergency Beacon Signal Detected

Times like this are when I miss Wayne Bookout. I'd ask how long these beacons are capable of lasting before they in effect, run out of power. Preacher would in turn politely provide the answer in the hopes of educating me. Now, I feel as though if I ask the same question, a troll will bite my head off. So, if someone doesn't mind stepping in for Wayne, I'd appreciate it.

Pings 'Likely' From EgyptAir Black Box

A French ship combing the Mediterranean for evidence of EgyptAir Flight 804 has detected what investigators believe are signals from one of the plane's black boxes.

False alert. It was a ELT broadcast that was picked up at the time of loss.

Signals detected from EgyptAir Flight 804 in Mediterranean

Airbus has detected signals from the Mediterranean Sea where EgyptAir Flight 804 crashed last week. The signals were emitted by the plane's emergency locator transmitter.

Hopefully yes. The ELT is generally located at the rear of the airframe and usually is activated by either water or "g" force. Time will tell!

I so hope the flight data and cockpit recorders are close by and not strewn miles apart from the fuselage locator beacon.
