British Airways to launch a budget subsidiary to compete with Ryanair and easyJet

제출됨

LONDON, UK — British Airways is planning to launch a new low-cost subsidiary that will operate short-haul flights at Gatwick Airport to compete with Ryanair, Wizzair, and EasyJet. It coincides with the ending of the government’s furlough scheme next month with new British Airways chief executive, Sean Doyle, hoping to cut costs to make the British flag carrier more competitive again. I guess they have not looked at history, it did not work out well for Continental (CAL Lite) or United (TED).

Or Lufthansa (too many to list)

Same with Delta (Song)

Most likely because one thing if you read the first sentence and the word "union".

Why do they need a subsidiary? Can't they just make it part of their own new routes and charge far less?

The idea is to apply a different label as not to besmirch the "honor" of your flagship airline name. Something to associate with the discount pricing and cattle car flights as opposed getting confused with the "I thought I was flying on a NORMAL BA PLANE!!"

Funny, I've heard their cityflier fleet is better than mainline. But who am I to say, I've never flown on either.

It's to reduce cost, mainly, labor cost. They want to pay less to everyone working for the subsidiary airline.

Ready? Give the best name for a British Airways budget airline!

Level of difficulty: Make it sound cheap, yet British snooty at the same time!

GO!

I thought British Airways had become a low cost airline, I mean they are almost there…

Apart from the cost part, they have!

Great idea, let's reinvent the flat tyre.

:-) Why not! I wonder if they just hired some new Chief Exec who wants his own vanity project to justify his mega bonus.

I thought that they were one already, at least that was the case the last time I flew with them.

I agree. I used to love flying with them, they still had a few perks like free drinks, snacks, etc. even when others had stopped. Now they charge for everything, just the same as EasyJet or Ryanair. Their customer service has gone to almost nothing and the staff just seem to hate their jobs. I don't see how they can make anymore "budget".

Pay toilets.

if you own and operate two airlines- one a budget subsidaiary, the other a full-service world service company, and other than price, how are we to tell the difference, given rock-bottom services inflight from the formerly full service company as oppposed to the budget outfit, starting out from no better than that level of the other company? Ah- perhaps seating density and the postures needed to comply with the dessicated seat construction, perhaps the quality of inflight service- or lack therof-? perhaps the laundry list of al-la-carte "service' charges? May i suggest a name? Royal Louis AIrlines, Loo for short.....

They might name it SNOP AIR. PAYING LESS TO INEXPERIENCED UNHAPPY EMPLOYEES IS REALLY THE KEY.

HIRE ALL THE STAFF FROM AIR ASIA. I LOVE TO FLY THEM. YOUNG PEOPLE WORKING HARD AND LOVING IT.

Shuttle by United, Ted, Song, Delta Express, Continental Lite, Continental West, USAir Metrojet. Did I miss any?
DouglasBiyd
Will not fly. delta tried Song and it flopped. As noted below, the same result with United’s TED.

FLYERS WILL STICK WITH Ryanair and others because they make it work. BA can’t adapt. DAB
