I remember the painting out of the registration markings and the logo as long ago as the mid-1970's when a TAP (Now Air Portugal) B-727 slid off the runway at Madeira (before the field was rebuilt). First thing the Portuguese inspectors did was spray paint the registration numbers and the TAP logo.
Actually, they call themselves TAP Portugal and are widely regarded as one of the world's safest airlines, with the above incident in 1977 landing at Madeira in heavy rain,and resulting in a runway excursion on their third and final attempt to land, was their only incident with fatalities in their entire history since 1945.
Indeed, PhotoFinish, I made a mistake about the current name of good old Transportes Aereos Portugueses (my keyboard doesn't have the appropriate accents. I lived in Lisboa for 3 years in the mid-1970's and had occasion to fly to Madiera for business regularly. TAP used Boeing 727-200's on the route, and only a select cadre of pilots were permitted to operate that route. The were in reverse thrust over the threshold, working against a short field and a constant crosswind.
When it is tight enough for reverse over the threshold, probably gonna be a good seat pucker too. Select group or not, you may get over the jitters but you never get used to it.LOL

It may make sense of some (some) of the recent spate of accidents and I would recommend that all pilots especially commercial view it. All accident investigation authorities - NTSB, CAA, TAIC, TSC etc.look at human factors obviously including cultural (Pilot and organisational) areas influencing CRM practices. Investigating accidents and countless accident reports over 5 years it is extremely rare that something is simple. Maybe too many people are watching YouTube videos.

Dear friend, preacher1, you are right but you are being too kind to the 'inferior pilots' while suggesting that they 'will not survive' ! Infact, at the slightest display of inferiority , such pilots should be kicked out of the league of pilots of every category. And, cancel their license to fly forthwith!
If one is in a position to do so, they generally do. Some are not in that position and unfortunately, get done with a flight and saying they are glad it's over rather than turning someone in. Sometimes too, it is hard to decide whether someone is inferior or just doesn't do things as you would. In most jobs, there is more than one way to do something and both may be fine.

Some of my pilot friends of this forum think that being a non pilot I must roam else where OR refrain from commenting. I am a licensed lawyer. But MUST it mean that I am an intelligent lawyer too ? Same holds valid for EVERY (licensed) pilot of this forum. The yard stick has to be the rationality and logic of a comment. Not necessarily limited to the correctness ! That part will be decided by persons involved with process of inquiry, devoid of EVERY member of this forum. If that were not to be so, why almost every comment (from a pilot) on this forum gets counter comments from coprofessionals ? Please do keep in mind that in case of inquiry and making a judgement of actions, it will be non pilots who will be deciding , ofcourse, on the basis of information given by professionals ! With utmost rationality and logic. Not on the basis of being temperamental and impulsive and biased ! Be it a court of law or a departmental inquiry at any and every level. Lowest to highest in the administration. Every where. No exception, countrywise.
Probably true but as a non aviator, I would think you would be on here to learn and absorb, rather than jus make disparaging remarks as you did yesterday and have in times past. There is a lingo and banter between pilots that is unique to a lot of career fields and you seem to want to change that rather than try and understand it. IMHO
I would add one thing here in reference to your comment about judgmental bodies, Into a court of law, unless just luck, you get a jury of non professional and or non pilots. That said, investigative boards prior to that, such as NTSB or the FAA are generally made up of pilots or those that possess a knowledge of aviation.

Actually, in reality, he speaks the truth. 2 for 2 now and to show he is not prejudice, he had some kind words for the Southwest crew at LAG a few weeks ago too.

Why do you keep it up with your piss poor attitude? I have yet to see one person say they are God. Now a bunch of us have a ton of knowhow and experience and fly each day and know cretin aircraft in and out. But just common since will tell you if it lands hard blows tires and the wing hits the runway it sure as hell was not due to ATC. My only comment in this whole thing is that Mr. Rudd is an accomplished aviator, has paid his dues, as most of us old heads have, and while irritating at times, he is entitled to his opinion. It is your right to express your opinion but as a non aviator, express it somewhere else. I think what James and a few more are trying to tell you is STFU.

Question. Can the tiller turn the nose gear while it's stowed? The passenger said that the AC turned sharply to the right when the nose gear touched down. If it was turned(like by the tiller) when it contacted the runway, then that would cause what the passenger described. Though this was an Airbus, so you never know what they are going to do.
