Did anyone ever get an explanation of what happens if a flight attempted to initiate a wind-shear recovery procedure at altitudes below 2,000’? Recovery techniques that I’m familiar with always start with full power, do not change configuration, raise the nose to the point of shaker, and fly the aircraft in and out of the shaker to get the maximum lift until continued positive climb is maintained. That procedure, to me anyway would activate MCAS thereby defeated the purpose of the action. Just thinking out loud.....

MCAS is never active with flaps down.

Yes, thanks, I’m aware of that but I was referencing after flap retraction on take-off, I just didn’t explain it very well. There have been few instances recently where one may be doing a zero flap landing and could make it a possibility.

Another interesting point is on both Max crashes, not so much on Ethiopian due to high airspeed attained, would it be fair to say that If one knew about the nuances of MCAS.......selecting & flaps1 (slats) would have deactivated it?

Very interesting thought. If there was spare time on a Max simulator maybe someone could try it.

It was a classic 'runway stab trim' issue, enabled by Boeing h1b programmers that were no longer 'in touch' with the the old guys and the original intent of the whole MCAS deal. Where did they go? Chicago? not!

The only Boeing production test pilot that came out of the 'closet' has my undying respect and best wishes for future employment as a pilot.

As for two crews that were behind the whole way, throttles 96% to the dirt is astoundingly unimaginable to those that did this merd for a livin', retired, and still here.

and we used to think mach tuck was bad? “The times they are a changin’.“
