What is wrong with you people? These are US citizens being brought home for treatment. Ebola is not an airborne virus. It spreads rapidly in Africa because of the general lack of hygiene and crowded conditions in the overtaxed healthcare facilities. You can rest assured that there are already samples of Ebola in research labs in the US.

These two people have families here. Would you be so righteous if it was your spouse or child being brought home?

This is the plan. Why do you think the president just amended an Executive Order to say that anyone even suspected of having so much as a chest cold can and will be quarantined at one of 20 Quarantine Centers around the country?

These people are bringing the ultimate terrorist to the US...one of most dangerous biogical hazards on earth. Talk about a potential threat to national security. I will stop before I get really upset.

We have all kinds of infectious disease pouring over our Southern Border with no precautions, the worst of which is Multiple Drug Resistant TB....highly contagious and like Ebola essentially none treatable but highly contagious.

At least with the Ebola victims, they have been identified and isolated. Not so with TB. They will be found out in the community "sharing their bounty" with unsuspecting Americans, many of whom will die and we will spend millions to identify contacts, investigate them and treat them.

They need to stay in Africa were the virus was born, cure the patients first then bring them back, not to risk the chances of this becoming an epidemic in the US! All that needs to happen is someone to cough on the pilots and its done!

According to the World Health Organization the only treatment available for Ebola is oral rehydration with solutions containing electrolytes or intravenous fluids.

That can be done anywhere.

There is currently no sign of Ebola in the United States.

Can someone explain to me why bringing active cases of Ebola into the United States is necessary?

You are correct from the point of view that there is no treatment apart from one or two non-approved experimental therapies, the most promising is transfusion with blood from previous survivors. There is however a huge difference in what constitutes supportive care in West Africa as opposed to Emery particularly as it relates to the liver and kidneys and the availability of management of the coagulation problems. None of this is to say they will survive, but their chances just went up from almost zip to 40%.

If they do survive, the researchers at CDC will be lined up to study them for years looking for antibodies, organ damage and whether the viron has left their system or continues to lurch. If so do they continue to shed it. I hope they have good veins.

Besides, look how well the CDC looked after the small pox samples and the anthrax specimens they just "found in a closet". What could go wrong?
