US Air slowly lowered their service and standards until they swallowed up America West. At that point, their service level fell like a lead balloon. As a frequent flyer on United (Not fantastic, but superior to Delta.) I'm VERY glad that US Scare will not be part of the Star Alliance. Why wait 6 months, how about tomorrow? Sad to see one of Americas great airlines, American Airlines, get swallowed up into the kings of hedge fund airline management. I once was a top level flyer on American, and still would be if it wasn't for missing half of my connections in Dallas.

So my question to all is the following: Is this a Band-Aid? Or has the root cause of the problem been located and corrected? Stronger cases, better fire suppression all sound like a Band-Aid to me.

Each good airline that has merged or been taken over by the US Airways group has done an excellent job at lowering expectations. To insure their way down that slope to the they merged in America West. With the addition of America West, they became large enough to tackle a larger airline such as American Airlines in their quest to drive air travel to the quality of a train in India. All is OK however, the Board of Directors and Executives will suck in another pile of cash, and the good people that are the backbone of the airline will mirror the counter workers at your local McDonald's.

No link, this is based on my colleagues and my own experience of flying ourselves and purchasing tickets for people we send all over the country and the world to take care of industrial projects. This is based on their feedback, as well as our own impressions. Generally, first class is pretty good on most all airlines. But you know, not everyone flys in first class all of the time...

So as a frequent business flyer on United, I can share that they went through their problems, but most of them seem to be getting taken care of. As far as the flyers program, it looks like they looked at United and Continental's and looked at the customer feedback they had at the time of what was important. Then, took the feature from each airline's program that was the least costly and made it the policy for the new United. All in all, both United and Continental flyers lost something, and some gained a little something someplace. Over all, the new airline won. It is very sad to me to see the merger of US Air and American Airlines. I wonder if this new airline will be in the Star Alliance, or One World? But the REALLY bad thing is that US Air is the WORST Airline in America. They were the second worst, but then they took over America West, the previous worst. Rather than US Air improving the America West business, America West brought US Airways down to their awful level. S

Say what you want, but I find his action creative! The airlines don't want to adjust their fares because of "competition". (Southwest does just fine by the way by not charging for normal baggage.) So they want to limit what you can bring as a carry-on, and then charge you for bags. I love it.

Isn't there one missing?

How does the POTUS visiting a factory become such a political issue? It is an honor whenever any President visits your location. The security is also a real pain in the ass....
