The Seattle Times reported on Sunday that 787 programme costs had topped $32bn due to delays. That estimate raised questions, the newspaper said, over whether the new jet would make money for Boeing before "well into the 2020s, if ever". Analysts say new jets typically cost closer to $15bn. A buddy of mine who is a First Officer for Air Transat, mentioned to me that HQ is thinking of slowly phasing out the 310's - he is typed on the 310 at the moment. I asked him what are they looking at to replace the 310's. He told me that perhaps they will get 767-200ERs from Continental!? Though, there are obvious hicups with Continentals financials. An EgyptAir Boeing 777-300, registration SU-GDL performing flight MS-986 (dep Mar 4th) from New York JFK,NY (USA) to Cairo (Egypt) with 156 passengers, was enroute over the Atlantic Ocean about half an hour before reaching the Irish coast when the crew reported an engine failure, shut the right hand engine (GE90) down and descended from FL340 to FL260.
