As an air traffic controller, I'm surprised DCA doesn't have 2 controllers on the mid-shift. I work at a 24 hour tower and we're staffed with two controllers every night. I can see how this made the news, but at the same time, Potomac did exactly what they were supposed to do, treat it as an uncontrolled airport and use non-radar procedures. Good job Potomac TRACON; as for the controller working the Tower, not sure what happened there....

We get the 717s at Bloomington, IL all the time. Can't wait to clear a Southwest flight for an approach, be it a 737 or 717.

As an air traffic controller, this is a pretty easy change for us, plus, it's a lot safer and eliminates pilots asking us if they're cleared to cross a runway. Now they will know initially and read it back as such.

This will be nice for those who don't want to travel 40 minutes to an hour to get to the Riviera Maya and stay away from the "tourist" part of Mexico. Maybe I'll put in a in a transfer to their tower!
