The FAA tests were done with the device in "airplane mode". How can they be sure the pilots will remember to put their iPads in airplane mode during critical phases of flight? Or does it even matter? I think if it mattered they implement some sort of warning system or put would put some sort of fail safe measures in place.
Gilles: nice shot. I saw this airplane only once, in flight low and slow over the Caughnawaga Golf Course, which is only a few miles from the St. Hubert Airport. With its extended nose and radar on top, I at first thought it was some sort of military or weather research aircraft until I spotted a test engine attached to the fuselage pod (fifth pod).
That was a quick thinking "rampy" who got the towbar out of the way! :-) Seriously, though, it looks like just about any incident: the culmination of several errors and failure to follow procedures.
