VIDEO: Crash Truck Dash Cam: AA 383 Fire at O’Hare
Submitted
Every video of the response to the uncontained engine failure of a Boeing 767 (American Airlines Flight #383) on departure from O’Hare International Airport contains a wealth of information about the incident and the fire department’s response to it. While the overall theme can be appropriately summarized with “Job well done,” there are certainly lessons to be learned. (And they have been.) UPS Airlines has ordered 14 more Boeing 747-8Fs to double its future fleet of the re-engined jumbo freighter and add vital months, perhaps even years, to the type's backlog. The cargo airline has also ordered four more 767 freighters, it disclosed in separate announcements on Twitter today. The orders were revealed as UPS released annual earnings showing strong growth in 2017 and expectations of higher demand this year. Southwest Airlines has removed the Boeing 737 Max jet from its schedule through Aug. 5, a key summer travel period. It’s unclear how many Southwest flights will be canceled as a result. Southwest suspended all 34 of its Max jets from its fleet of more than 750 Boeing 737 models after the Max’s anti-stall software was implicated in an Ethiopian crash in March that killed 157 people (www.cnbc.com) More...It would be the world’s largest airplane. Submitted
Delta will retire the MD-88 and MD-90 aircraft earlier than previously planned, with both aircraft types exiting the fleet effective June 2020. The accelerated retirement schedule of both aircraft is a result of the COVID-19 pandemic as we reduce capacity systemwide. Delta cut its overall active fleet by about half, parking more than 600 mainline and regional aircraft in the last two months. Submitted
Consider it a lesson in why you should always, always read the manual: A Boeing 747 freighter aircraft got tail-happy in an unexpected way at Qatar's Doha International Airport, when a weight imbalance reportedly brought about by improper unloading procedures caused it to tip backwards onto its tail and thrust the nose of the jumbo jet into the air.
