Awesome pic!
great shot
Why can't Flight Aware figure out that the ID number on the nose of U.S. Navy aircraft is not an "N" number?
Based on Joe Baugher's info, I suspect that the registration/serial number for this aircraft is 164621. {"Grumman E-2C Hawkeye Group 2 Model G-123. For FMS. 164621 to JASDF as 34-3459")
Paul, entering the registration number on FA can be a little tricky. As far as I can tell, if you enter five characters (numbers and/or letters) or less FA assumes it is a civilian registration and puts an "N" at the front. Although, I've experienced times when I have had to add the "N" myself. If you enter six digits or more FA thinks it is military and does not add the "N". If you enter six digits FA normally adds a "-" (hyphen or dash) after the first two digits. If there are more than six digits then there is no "-". And having said all that, I'm not completely sure I'm right. Someone please correct me if I have it wrong. And based on the fact that Munnaf has only been on FA for a couple of weeks or so, I'm guessing he isn't aware of most, or any, of that.
Munnaf, you've posted some pretty nice shots so far, including this one. Keep up the good work!

I think that it is a simple matter to reprogram the FA computer so that it will accept numbers, letters and a combination of both without getting ahead of itself and placing letter N next to US and foreign military aircraft tail numbers.
Very good shot and useful comment.
nice.
