Delta to Take Ownership Stake in China Eastern, Expand Partnership
Delta Air Lines announced an expansion of its partnership with China Eastern Airlines that includes taking an ownership stake in the airline. The partnership calls for the two airlines to “better connect” the two airlines’ route networks as well as for Delta to invest $450 million to acquire a 3.55% stake in China Eastern.... China's stock market is tanking today and has been recently. Wonder if there is more behind this deal than appears????
It may be awhile but I'll go on record that Alaska Airlines is on the list somewhere, maybe sooner, maybe later.
Please - this has NOTHING to do with Alaska. This explains a remark Delta CEO Richard Anderson made a couple of months ago that he wanted to duplicate in Shanghai with China Eastern, what Delta has in Amsterdam with KLM. How in the heck did Alaska even get into this conversation? Not every Delta investment story implicates Alaska. Sheesh!
Alaska airlines got into this because he was talking about how Delta is trying to get stakes in airlines. Like I already said Delta did try to buy Alaska but they said no so they are trying to pinch them in every way to get them to budge but Alaska Airlines is holding there ground.
Thank You William. In case he did not notice, mine was the FIRST comment on this post YESTERDAY and yours was the SECOND and his was not until last night sometime.
They already tried to buy Alaska Airlines but Alaska said no. Now they are trying to run them out of business just to get a stake in there airline. Word to the wise the DOT needs to stop Delta in there path because this is the second airline in weeks they are trying to take a hold of.
What Delta wants is someone on the cheap to feed passengers to the West Coast so they can take the tourists to domestic destinations. Given the volume of Asian passengers with an eye on visiting the US, it may not be such a bad deal.
