Well Phil I got the slitty eyes, yellow skin and the high cheek bones of a typical Slav from central/east Europe. The handicap I have is trying to understand the hate that people have agin others.

Stealth is a trade off on performance and price. Then there is the factor as to how much stealth does a country need when the main targets are only about 200 miles away (Chinese border from Seoul in the West), the terrain is mountainous and the attacker has electronic jamming and deception available? This would seem to be either a negotiating maneuver or the generals wanting more sophisticated toys than needed.

More of that oriental status/ego/culture. Same things that took down 214. I haven't eat my crow yet on the AA/USA merger cause it ain't a done deal yet and I won't shut up on this until the NTSB brings something out.

If they want a newer fighter than the F-15 with their small budget, they should consider that new Cesna fighter.

They want a lot, but don't want to pay for it. If they've got a Cesna budget, they should look at the Cesna.

If they want stealth in a new fighter, they should open up the piggy bank like everyone else in the consortium that is paying through the nose for the F-35.

"F-15 not good enough" Granted it is getting a little long in the tooth, but the F-15 is one of the greatest fighters ever made and in my book has reached legendary status. Wikipedia says USAF is looking to keep F-15s around until 2025, so they must still fit the bill. If they don't want it, I'll take one! Don't like our stuff, go somewhere else then!

All they need to do is add say 3 F-35s to this fleet and they are set. They only have to hold out 3 days anyway until the cavalry would arrive. There are already 22K USA military based in S Korea. No.. this is just nonsense and some could argue it is provocation. It is true that N Korea is an unstable and dangerous player but they are not standing alone.

With 22k pairs of boots on the ground, I can't believe that they'd insider giving the business to any other ally, or even to a N Korea supporter (past or present). Can't believe it's anything but a tough negation. (Maybe they elwant to save money, so that they will start contributing for having all those boots there to save their butts. ;)

It's their dollar, they can buy what they want. If they feel the F-15 is not giving enough bang for their buck, they are free to rebid or simply purchase something else.With a teen-aged ego maniac at the nuclear button 200 miles away, they have every right to want the most they can get. If we were suddenly faced with nuclear weapons in Cuba, would we anchor our defense with a squadron of F-15S

Well, in reality, it ain't their $. It is ours. With the massive input of US $ and boots on the ground, they will buy what we want them to buy. This just goes back to that culture/status thing so the hogs at the trough can make the impression to the underlings that they have some power.
Roland, you talking about holding out 3 days til the cavalry gets there; granted, more would come and quickly, but the cavalry is there and American blood would be shed that first day anything happened

Well guys...the action is not going to start on the underside of a B2 or any other manned aircraft. They want us to believe it will. The oceans deep are where the action is and the AWACS will be the first warning. Conventional wars fine...but the end game does not involve the F-15. Maybe they know that.

Wayne you lost 3000 in NYC on 9/11 under circumstances that are incredible. I want no more slaughter. I am a product of WW2. I want no more legalised murder. When I say incredible I mean just that..like so many others.

One big difference though, is that these folks, for all their Boeing bluster here, are looking for it. As with our younger generation, a lot of theirs weren't born until well after the 50's but there are still enough of the old heads around that remember. After WW2, we had nobody on our soil until the 1st WTC attack but it took 9 1 1 to really drove it home and we must make the case nw and accept that a lot of these fringe groups will follow us home and set up housekeeping in our midst. Not Pretty.

Yeah there was a time when the US dollar was the only currency that was universally accepted. I did some sales work at trade shows...the guys from the old E Bloc and Russia all wanted to pay in US dollars. The company I worked for were so arrogant they expected the world to pay in UK pounds. That was 18 years ago...not sure how they trade now.

Dollar is still widely used. It is still the most widely used reserve currency.

Don't expect Russians and Brits to be using the Chinese yuan for trading any time soon. Although the Euro does have wide use on the continent. That was the point after all. It might also substitute in some transactions in "greater Europe" or rather, those nearby countries that still maintain their own currency (ruble, pound sterling), especially if one of the trading partners is based in a Euro country.

But your example with both non-Euro "greater European" trading partners. That's a tougher question. I wonder myself. The Euro isn't too popular in UK. Given the recent monetary concerns with the Euro, I'm sure they're finally feeling justified in their currency arrogance (and would want to hold or denominate their trades in Euros, lest the currency drastically change the slur of their trade overnight). I'd expect many Brits to still want pounds sterling.
