Airbus a330neo is Delayed
TAP is expected to be the launch customer of the Airbus a330neo. The a330neo first flight was scheduled spring 2017 but is now delayed. The first flight is not expected in September 2017. "The first delivery was to take place in late 2017 but will now happen in spring 2018" says Airbus CEO Fabrice Brégier. The Trent 7000 that will power the neo has passed their test. Wonder why A330neo would still be relevant when A350s are already flying... A330's brother from another mother (Boeing 767) only have freighter and KC-46 version in production...
It's about money. With the A330neo, you get 95% commonality with the 330ceo but you get the new efficient engines similar to the 787. So while it's not as efficient as the 350 and doesn't have quite the range, you still get good gas mileage and a smaller sticker price compared to the 787.
A330 is to 787 as A350 is to 777.
The 777 is in a class all it's own. Besides airbus made the a330 neo to compete with 777-200 if I'm not mistaken.
I made a typo. I accidentally said the first flight is not expected in September but I meant to say that it is now expected in September. My bad.
