So this incident was not Boeing's fault.

From the article:
"The agency’s preliminary report highlights potential problems with recent maintenance performed on the aircraft’s brakes.

The airline had just completed a project replacing the airplane’s steel brakes with carbon brakes four days earlier on Feb. 6. During this maintenance project, the NTSB believes that hydraulic lines connected to the brakes may have been incorrectly reattached."

When the media reports a cracked windshield on an aircraft and references the door plug in the story, it makes one feel they need to point out obvious maintenance issues. And as screwed up as Boeing is, the media needs to take a second before publishing a story to actually see relevancy to Boeing's quality problems first before tying the two together. The Boeing quality problems don't need any help to demonstrate their abject failure, it stands on it's own.

I agree it seems as if any article of a Boeing aircraft issue gets the "door plug" thrown in for free! If you look at most of the issues of late they are mostly of the poor maintenance type. Also rumor is the FBI is looking into the door plug as a crime. Which makes sense because some worker completely left the bolts off the plug and also failed to document the work entirely.

Like Capt. Sully said, "You still have to fly the airplane." You also have to fix it right the first time! Why, for crying out loud, is there never enough time to do it right, but always time to do it over. Luckily, in this case no one died.

Tyre rubber skid marks show the aircraft had plenty of brakes when it entered the concrete runway overrun area. 737 landing speed is usually <145kts (was there a tail wind?). Auto brake malfunction would require rapid and correct reactions. I think there are a few more swiss cheese factors in this incident. I'm glad the captain got it stopped and no harm done, but!
