Absolutely superb pic, Pelican. *****++! TYVM for sharing this. I recall seeing multi-ship flights of Flying Boxcars going over my house when I was a kid in the later 60s. This pic is a great memory jog. Thanks again. (Thumbs Up)

Back in the '80's, these were used as "Borate Bombers" on forest fires. They'd fuel and fill up on retardant at KFAT, then fly over my house on the way to the fire. Can hear the engines now! Cheers!

I recall quite a number of these were scrapped after being stored at the Saskatoon Airport (YXE) for a number of years. Too bad a few were not kept around for historic sake.

I used to watch them fly out of Paine Field in the early 60's. They were still active then.

As a 5 y/o I had a model of the flying boxcar with operable rear doors. I would put a model tank in the rear doors and fly it around the house.
