The propeller of Race 15 struck the right wingtip area of Race 3. (Photo #6 in my 11-pic sequence shows both racers about one-quarter of a second pre-contact.) This photo, fired within the same single second as my previous shot in the sequence, shows the debris flying away from Race 3, and pilot Killen going vertical as he banks away from Race 15 -- most likely, still in the act of banking around the pylon. At this instant, neither pilot has had an opportunity to declare and, in all probability, Killen may not yet have even fully understood exactly what has happened to his racer because he would have been concentrating on getting around the outside of Pylon 5 and may not have even known that Race 15 was only a couple of feet behind his right wing. Zadrow, piloting Race 15, would probably have seen his prop strike Killen's wingtip but it is doubtful he would have even fully fathomed the strike when this pic was clicked.br /* NOTE ... This photo is a very small section of a much larger original. I cropped this portion out of the larger original so that the detail is easier to view. However, by doing so, it makes it appear that the two aircraft are rather far apart from each other. In reality (as is obvious in the original), they are literally directly above / below each other, and only a couple of feet apart. The propeller striking the wing has occurred less than one second ago. *br /Both aircraft landed safely, and no one was injured. This in-air collision marked the end of the 2019 races for both aircraft.

All email recipients -- Hey, folks, it is OK to share the original of this photo, but please hold off on sharing the other five (3 pre and 2 post collision) shots for awhile longer. Also, I will send you all this crop (it is from the 4th of the six pics I sent to all of you). TYVM.

Great report Gary. These guys get intensely competitive and it can be extremely hard to keep 'situational awareness'.
