Douglas DC-6 (N90742) - Flashback (Fifty Seven years ago all the way back to 1965) ~~br /Taken thru a terminal window with my first-ever camera, a little Kodak Brownie that used Kodak 127 film, this click caught American's "Flagship Peoria," a Douglas DC-6 (N90742), taxiing away from Gate 6 in the American Airlines Concourse ** at Greater Buffalo International (now Buffalo Niagara International), KBUF.br /br /** Info Note: The American Airlines Concourse was brand new. When it opened, it provided American with five gates: 6, 7, 8 -- where I am taking this photo from, 9, and 10; and made it possible for United to gain exclusive use of the five original gates: 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Mohawk Airlines was given exclusive use of one in-terminal gate (11) and three airlines (Mohawk, Lake Central, and Allegheny -- today's American Airlines) had shared usage of four uncovered gates (12 thru 15), all of which could only be accessed by exiting the terminal and proceeding on an uncovered fenced walkway. Along the walkway, there were two openings in the fence; one marked by a sign as Gate 12 and the other as Gate 13. To get to Gates 14 and 15, a passenger just continued on the walkway until the walkway ended. Then the passenger just kept going to whichever airliner he/she was flying on. A couple of years after I snapped this pic, Eastern inaugurated service to BUF and its aircraft used American's gates.br /That's how it was back in the "sixties."

Once more, I find myself having to apologize for the condition of this old film photograph. I do regret that it is not a Primo pic. Not only is it 57 years old, but it was taken thru a terminal window and there is obviously the reflection of a window shade. Heck, I was 15 years old and my only interest back then was getting the shot of the airplane. I suppose I could have used PS to remove the window shade but it would have been a lot of work for nothing because anyone who is upset that the shade is in the pic isn't anyone who is truly interested in aviation history as shown by my old pics anyway. But there are plenty of old timers like myself who will get a kick out of seeing this old Douglas Six and to me, that's the reason I shared it here. (Thumbs Up for the Days of the Propliners!)

Huge Grin) And there's one now. lol Someone just gave this aviation history film pic a "2." lolol Hey, bozo, let's see what YOUR 1965-era film pic looks like. Ooops; I'm sorry. You don't have the faintest idea what "film' is or how to use it. lolol Shove your "2' up your ___. lololol You completely missed the point of the pic being posted. People like you think everything is about "stars' and "prizes' and little paper "feel good' awards. I'll bet you even have an "I Love Me' wall with the little "star' your first grade teacher gave you that reads "Category: Nose * Best Blower In First Grade *. lolololol

Well darn it, I'll give it 5 FOR ITS HISTORY VALUE. There are 'adults' who take worse photos than this TODAY with all the latest tech. Oh hang on, that'll be a pointless out of focus phone photo of something so far away it can barely be recognized anyway.

Keep 'em coming Gary, it's history that counts.

Hiya, Gav. Hey, TYVVM for the Spot-On Comment. But just as an FYI: My Second Comment (re: the bozo) wasn't aimed at an FA "viewer." I'll give you some info and you can deduce who from there. My pic did not appear in the gallery for 87 seconds after I clicked on it to post it. When it did appear, it had ZERO views and one vote: a "2." We continued to watch it and "time" it. 50 seconds later, it had 15 views and the "2' vote. So if the view count is to be believed to be accurate, we are supposed to believe that in just 50 seconds, ten seconds shy of one minute, this pic was viewed FIFTEEN times?! And one of those 15 viewers gave it a "2." EXCEPT, just 87 seconds after I posted it, it made its first public appearance in the gallery and had not yet been viewed by any FA viewer member, but already someone had given it a "2." Hmmmm. I wonder who, of all the people in the FA viewership world, has the ability to award a grade to a pic BEFORE any FA viewer member has even seen it? So now that you know these 100% accurate facts, you can go ahead and make a guess as to who I was addressing in my Second Comment. lolol But ... we do wonder about one "mystery." Many hundreds of photos get posted here daily. Quite a few of them pass thru the "initial" review process and emerge without any of those oh-so-precious "stars." (ROTFLMAO) But the anonymous bozo who messed up by giving this pic a "2' grade before any FA viewer had even seen it (thus revealing who it was) felt compelled to award a very low star grade to a pic that most obviously was only posted for its value as an aviation history photo. Why? Why not just check it, approve it for public viewing, let it appear in the gallery, and not give it ANY "star' grade? As best we can figure, there's just one reason: The person who did it is an aviation photo ignoramus. And since that person cannot respond to our conclusion without revealing an identity which I would immediately publicize, we are left to conclude that our conclusion is 100% correct. lolololol
