Nice!
Great picture!
A very good photo of this type... and the influence of this design upon Consolidated's later B-32 Dominator is evident.
Thank you!
A legend still flying :) Nice shot.
Liberator? B24...one of them have been shot down close to my house, returning from a mission over Germany in 44.These poor youngs have been killed but 2. A rock with their name stand along the canal..(Altkirch Alsace)
>>> Serge LOTH... it is a development of the B-24, used for maritime patrol flights during the war.
Yea, finally the US Navy version. My father was a bombardier in the PB4Y flying anti-shipping out of the Philippines in WWII. No high altitude bombing for these missions. They dove on the ships and dad said he dropped the bombs when he could see down the smoke stack. He had 3 Purple Hearts to show for it, as will as multiple Distinguished Flying Crosses. Perhaps the only 4 engine heavy bombers to be used routinely in such a way in WWII.
Nice shot. I believe this is the Navy version of the B24...called the Privateer.
Nice shot. I believe this is the Navy version of the B24...named the Privateer.
A PB4Y-2 and with P&W R2600s as a fire fighter...
I always thought that the Consolidated PB4Y Privateer was a gorgeous aircraft, with the top two power turrets and the twin .50's in the waists, and far better looking than the B-24 Liberator. The aircraft shown above is the Coast Guard Version of the Privateer.
