Nice shot. I lived in Fairfield, CA, home of Travis AFB, for nearly 40 years, and C-5s and C-17s would routinely fly over our house. My son has followed his father and grandfather into the Air Force, and he is now stationed at Seymour Johnson AFB in North Carolina. He is an avionics technician for the F-15E Strike Eagle. He wanted to be a loadmaster on the C-5 or C-17, but the avionics job opened first.

I never got to SUU as an Air Transportation Specialist in the USAF but worked a lot of C5B's from bother SUU and DOV while stationed at both MHZ and RMS as well as a few TDY's at other NATO bases.

Impressive aircraft..
My first assignment was working C-5As at Altus AFB, OK. We received the first B-model just before I PCS'd in early '86. Hard to believe they're on the M-models now.

Always a treat to see a C-5 Airborne

Super Shot !!
Stationed at Travis 5 years. Worked in the air to ground receiver site which was about 1500 feet from runway 3L/21R and the view out the window was C5's, C141's and KC-135's all day long.

I've probably flown in both those aircraft. As a DoD Program Manager/Chief Engineer I was responsible for two classified programs. One was flown SUU-HIK and points west in the Galaxy. The other was installed in the Extender as part of a Joint Chief's Comm program. Had some exciting moments doing the flight tests out over the Atlantic. Good times.
Wonderful...

I got to kick the tires on the first one to land at Rhein Main AB in 70. There was a 133 setting there also which were immediately retired. Big Bird.

I'll never forget the enjoyment I had while working in Smyrna, GA in 1970. I would drive about a mile from the office to a parking lot at a tavern that was located at the end of the runway at what I think was a Lockheed facility. Nearly every day I got to witness a C-5 Galaxy taxi to the end of the runway, turn and lumber down the runway until the wings "popped up" then it would Fly! A special treat was one day when an F104 Starfighter taxied to a position about halfway down the long runway while a C5 waited at the end. It then proceeded to take of and turned vertical and was out of sight in less than 10 seconds! The C-5 then lumbered down the runway and took off. What a treat that was!

Great photo! I grew up in Marietta in the 1960s and 70s watching C5s, 141s and 130s flying around all the time. My dad was part of the
structures team at Lockheed on the C5 and I remember being off the end of the runway at Dobbins AFB for the first flight of the C5 one Sunday morning if I recall correctly. Great memories of a great time and airplane.

Great shot! My dad was part of the structures team at Lockheed in Marietta during the 70s. Seeing C5As flying around all the time was awesome! I remember one Sunday morning at Dobbins AFB seeing the first flight of this bad boy. Really cool.

Thankyou to the guys who showed us around the KC10 at the Avalon airshow. Great experience and of course great young men.
