I have not flown in The Boxcar since 1956.Also called "The Shuttering Shitwagon in The Corps back then.All the passengers seats faced backwards.

Recuerdo de ver este tipo de avión u otro muy similar en los años 60 en los cielos de la Base Aérea de Los Llanos en Albacete, España, en aquella época había militares norteamericanos destacados allí.

We were deployed to Sidi Slimane, French Morrocco in 1957. Flew C-121 from McGuire AFB. Passed C-119 on way over, hope he didn't lose an engine!! It was a work horce in Korea.

In about 1958, I hitched a ride on one of these from Tripoli to Athens. Bench seating on the sides only. Made us wear parachutes. The young Lt pilot told us if we hear the bell ring and on one comes back from the front, just open the door and bail! He loved scaring the S--t out of 4 young GIs. Made it to Athens just fine.

Is this the same model airplane as used in "Flight of the Phoenix"?

No, that is not the type. In the film Flight of the Phoenix (1965) a Fairchild C-82 packet was used. The machine on this photo is a Nord Noratlas, these are from the French manufacturer Nord, first flight of a North Atlas was on 10 September 1949 it was produced until 1961. There were military and civil versions the military was used by various air forces from African countries, such as Israel, but also from Portugal, Greece, France and the Federal Republic of Germany. A Nordatlas is located in the Technikmuseum Speyer (Germany)
