Im totally shocked.... TSA agents catch every water bottle and shampoo container over the size limit! I guess they are ass hats afterall!
sparkie624
And the surprise is where?
WALLACE24
Confirms what we already knew. Nothing but a vote buying jobs program at this point. That goes for the entire DHS.
Bernie20910
"the entire DHS"... So, you're in favor of eliminating DHS?

Let's see, in addition to TSA that would also include Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), essentially leaving our borders wide open and unprotected.

Yes, just as they are now. Then, give the National Guard their job back.
WALLACE24
Those services were all in place before DHS.
Bernie20910
Yes, but now they're under DHS.

And that was clearly a change for the worse. It added another layer of incompetence.
WALLACE24
Exactly. So why another layer?
Bernie20910
It was a consolidation of many different existing bureaus and agencies, combined with newly created ones, under a single, cabinet level department. This actually did some good for the agencies involved. But to say that just because one agency is not performing its function well the entire department should be eliminated is ridiculous. It would be akin to Airbus eliminating its fixed wing division because of the A400M crash.
WALLACE24
We all know what DHS is and how it came about. The point is, what has it fixed?
Bernie20910
Fine then, do away with DHS. But before you do, ask yourself how you're going to cover the boarders, deal with immigration (both legal and illegal), protect Americans from the importation of illegal and harmful products, collect taxes and tariffs on imported goods, ensure maritime safety and security, AND do security screening at airports and other transportation facilities, because all of those functions are part of DHS.

The facts do not back up that the new level of bureaucracy has been worth its troubles. Streamlining our government by reducing overlapping agencies and responsibilities would save billions and reduce the government's ability to play its' pass the blame game. This latest failure of the TSA is not "akin" to a single accident. The TSA and DHS has been a government works project and inept from its inception. Any corporation held accountable by its shareholders could handle airport security at a fraction of the cost us taxpayers are paying.

Why does the media (and government) feel the need to share this information to the masses? Call me crazy, but it seems like this information would be better off if kept on the down-low.

You've got to call it what it is. Wallace24 gave a pretty good description. The government releases these eye catchers through their media outlets to setup their stupid minions for step two. For a "slight tax increase," a few less freedoms, and just a few billion more we can address this crisis and make you all feel safer.

How is this a surprise to anyone that's flown commercially since 2001...?

There’s an error in the article; failing 67 out of 70 is actually 96% not 95%.

(95.7%)

US airport screeners missed 95% of weapons, explosives in undercover tests

Transportation Security Administration screeners allowed banned weapons and mock explosives through airport security checkpoints 95 percent of the time, according to the agency's own undercover testing. ABC News reported the results on Monday, but Ars could not independently confirm them. According to ABC News, a Homeland Security Inspector General report showed that agents failed to detect weapons and explosives in 67 out of 70 undercover operations.
