TSA doing road inspections in Tennessee

제출됨

PORTLAND, Tenn. – You're probably use to seeing TSA's signature blue uniforms at the airport, but now agents are hitting the interstates to fight terrorism with Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR). "Where is a terrorist more apt to be found? Not these days on an airplane more likely on the interstate," said Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is perfectly capable of providing this type of enhanced security. Ridiculous waste of taxpayer money when services are duplicated.

Does this mean when I get pulled over, I now have to put my hands in plain sight AND take my shoes off??

I do not believe that the TSA are actually ‘sworn’ officers, therefore stopping, searching or arresting anyone requires a real officer. If my assumption is correct, isn’t the redundancy a waste of manpower (i.e. money). In the airport, they can get away with the searches because you are basically ‘volunteering’ to be searched as a condition of transport. Perhaps a there is a certified police officer, on this forum, who can provide some enlightenment on this.

@Wayne B. I sure hate to be a pessimist but we are in pretty deep. It is going to take more than a change of President for a cure. As a foreign leader said lately "the US will get past Obama. The problem is that the people elected him in the first place." Sounds a whole lot like your dumbed down statement was in play.

@James Wallace: You are correct my friend. I hate to have a pessimistic attitude but something has got to show me different before it will change.

I could just imagine how many drivers, including myself, will get pulled over because of reports by an overzealous, iq of a peanut first observer...

I see something suspicious about the TSA.

Your just now noticing?

Also, I guess the numbnuts at TSA will be able to soon say you're a threat and tell DMV to pull your drivers license.

I am like one above; I would have thought that the Tennesee Highway patrol would have been perfectly capable of doing this but if you will notice he has HOMELAND SECURITY in his title so maybe he is like Babbit, trying to get his 15 minutes.

Oh no, not you too with Babbit's 15 mins. :-)

Hummm . . . I am reminded the former East German STASI employing the “inform-on-your-neighbor-if-you-see-something-suspicious” tool.

Security here is a no brainer, we just have to change the rules a bit. Right now the only people we are bothering are citizens. For Christs sake pick on the problem people.

Starting to feel that way more and more isn't it... :^( sad but true.

I was hoping the TSA could find a new way to spend a ton of money and provide no value. I can't wait until the ratio of citizens to TSA employees is 1:1.

It's hilarious how their example of a success is that they detected what they thought was dangerous chemicals but it turned out to be fine. As usual. Idiots.

Interesting article. I was just reading earlier tonight about Oklahoma City bombing then I read this article and saw this: "Trott pointed out it was an Oklahoma state trooper who stopped Timothy McVeigh for not having a license plate after the Oklahoma City bombing in the early 1990s." I was a little concerened from just reading the article headline, but now that i've read the entire article I'm not so concerned.

@mr. Sharp. I was definitely being sarcastic.....with federal dot, state dot, state police, county sherriff, city cops, all on the highway we probably do need one more layer........right. Do these tsa road police carry guns? Or wands.? Guns would be scary.

Can't wait to hear the stories of the truck driver getting his "junk" groped
rick737
Ten years after the creation of the TSA, they realize the front line employees of transportation are the key to their success. To show it, the TSA ask truck drivers to say something if they see something. Where was the same response in 2001 when airline crews were being treated like the enemy? To this day, there is no trust, or program, to utilize the expertise of pilots and flight attendents. Why? There is a simple answer for this. The burger flippers at the TSA know they are in ineffective. If they ask for help, it's a sign of weakness.

More proof that the TSA MUST BE ABOLISHED.

They want to molest the truck drivers -- too bad they give a pass to those that are of the same demographic as the terrorists
bigred84010
I know what you mean. It isn't really "racial" profiling if the majority of suicide bombers/hijackers happen to be mostly from specific nations now is it? Isn't that more or less like looking for probable suspects instead of wasting tax payer money on double screening of 6 year olds and 90 year olds?

This is great. I'm so glad this is going on in my state. I can hardly wait to call in and report every single person riding in the passing lane, all those suspiciously stopped vehicles on the sides of the road, and hell, while I'm at it, every single work crew. Who knows, they could be terrorists 'hacking' the traffic signals or filling in potholes with explosives...

I'm programming the THP phone number into my mobile phone now.

Somebody needs to send Tennesee's Mr. Gobbons a link to this site & comments. He's probably like a lot of bureaucrats, don't have a clue as to how the general public feels about these folks.

Our government is out of control, and they want more money?
airclaxon1
When are they going to start coming into our homes ?
kldfligtrrt
so why is my tax dollars spent on patroling roads now. Maybe they should add extra people at airports to decrease wait time for travelers. I would not care if they even had a plain cloths devision to start profiling travelers prior to check point. At least something they have been trained to do.

This is typical of the government being reactive instead of proactive. Instead of the government bragging that they deported 400,000 illegals in the past year, how about stopping them from getting here in the first place? When you shoot a few of the bastards invading us across the Mexican border that flow of people will be reduced to a trickle. Same thing with foreign nationals coming into this country by air, ship, etc. they should be scrutinized to the 10th degress instead of having almost the same access as a US citizen. Trying to find the bad guys buried amoung 250 million people and being able to move around freely is near impossible no matter how many boots you put on the ground. This is all probably just part of the administrations cure for unemployment----hire more gov. workers that do nothing. Probably transferring over from the post office.

I have never in my lifetime saw such an absolute lack of common sense in things that both our government and general population is doing. There has been such a total dumbing down of society that I wonder if we can ever recover.
