Lockheed Constellation - L-1049.
The first 2 flights of my life were on a Super G Constellation. The airline was Capitol International Airlines. In my opinion the Constellation is the most beautiful passenger aircraft ever built. I used to see one occasionally used for cargo landing at MIA, but they have all disappeared now. The fuel is quite expensive for those big radial engines. I read that the Constellation used to be called the best 3 engine aircraft ever built due to the habit of at least one engine kicking out during a typical flight.

Beautiful pic!
This is the only commercial aircraft that I never have flown on. I think it is a beautiful aircraft.

Gorgeous!
My family flew on a Constellation from Stockholm to New York via Oslo, Keflavik, Gander, and Boston. This was in 1951 on American Overseas Airlines, a subsidiary of AA. Not exactly non-stop, but that was how it was. Yes, they had to change an engine on one stop! The Connie will live on as one beautiful aircraft.
I totally agree w/ Richard the most beautiful plane ever built up to now. The model was so gracious that in the beginning the tail fins had to be enlarged in order to improve the fly characteristics.

Paul W - to be more precise: Lockheed SUPER Constellation - L-1049G [commonly called "Super G"]. It was succeeded by the L1649 Starliner. The clue that it's a Super G are tip tanks - the only airliner I can think of that had them. Incidentally, the tip tanks also acted as 'fences' - to prevent sideways bleedoff of upper and lower wing airflow, that generates lift, somewhat similar to the currently popular use of 'winglets'. As a matter of interest, I was a design engineer in the Constellation Engineering Design Project at Lockheed in Burbank CA, starting in the early 1950's.

live by phila international airport as a kid in the early fifties , so close when CONNIE'S landed i could see the people in the windows from my bed, what memories !
I flew around the world during the mid fifties in a Connie when you got to see the world via TWA and MATS. Only one problem when a jug failed coming home to NYC over Wyoming. A wonderful aircraft othewise.

This one looks like the HARS aircraft at Wollongong YSHL in Australia.
