Unconfirmed midair between Piper Navajo and unidentified RPA

Looks a lot more like a Piper Aztec than it does a Navajo. A collision was bound to happen eventually. I think a large number of people (airliner type numbers) will have to die before the powers that be decide to get serious about reducing the danger posed by the new generation of radio controlled aircraft. Even a few incidents/deaths in GA aviation won't result in anything more than intense hand wringing.

People have been operating radio controlled aircraft for decades with little to no issues whatsoever - until now. Concluding that this may have been the relative high cost and commitment to developing the skills necessary to not turn the radio controlled aircraft into a pile of parts within a few seconds. Nowadays, the quadcopters have such inherent stability that any idiot can operate one effectively. Darwin has left the building! This will get a lot worse before it gets better.

It is an Aztec, and at least one of the photos is of the left hand side elevator, not the wing. Geees, can people not get just a bit more accurate in their stories..... Errors like that put the entire piece in question. That said, how did the UAS, or whatever it was, get past the prop and engine cowling without a scratch, or did the author (and I use the term loosely) miss that too. Looks more like a piece of the plane that came off, but it would not surprise me to see that it is an idiot at the controls of a UAS. Just for kicks guys, take a look and see if anything is missing off that left engine. FAA Investigating Reported UAV Collision with Piper Twin

So far it's unconfirmed, but the FAA is taking seriously a report that a Piper twin was involved in a midair collision with a UAV over northern Illinois on August 27, under Chicago's Class B airspace about 20 nm southwest of O'Hare International.

Photos of the damaged airplane posted online by sUASNews.com show a dented wing leading edge and a six inch slice in the de-ice boot that looks like it was caused by something manmade and not of avian origin.
