It was always political. More accurately, it was an attempt to get people to voluntarily give up their rights - an exercise in behavioral psychology to mentally prepare people to accept *anything* as an alternative to masks, social distancing, and lock-downs (all useless, as we've found out). The ultimate goal was the "vaccines". Always was.
And regardless of what you think about the effectiveness or the safety of the vaccines, that ended up being a lie as well. Nothing changed after they became available. In fact, things got worse.
It was all theater, a money grab and an attempt to usher in a world-wide surveillance state.
We were all lied to. Time to admit it and never let it happen again.

Those of you down-voting the above post really need to do your own research. I find it troubling that a forum full of aviation enthusiasts and pilots, who are required to have some technical know-how and the ability to trouble shoot, can't do the same when it comes to finding information.
