American Airlines parks 100 regional jets due to pilot shortage, CEO says

American Airlines is the latest U.S. carrier to announce that its parking some regional jets due to a shortage of pilots. Speaking at an event for Wall Street analysts on Friday morning, American’s CEO, Robert Isom, said that the carrier has parked about 100 aircraft. “We have probably a hundred aircraft — almost a hundred aircraft that aren’t, aren’t productive right now, that aren’t flying,” Isom said at the Bernstein Strategic Decisions Conference. People who have both an understanding of aviation and of business knew how bad an idea it was for airlines to shut down hiring and new-hire training during COVID. Now, the pilot shortage is even worse, and there is really no way to make up for the almost two years lost.

Pilot shortage due to more over regulation by the Government. Demanding new pilots have 1,500 hours instead of 250. And their stupid, out for itself only, union agreed to this??? The union should have fought this tooth and nail!! But their thinking was more money for the existing pilots and of course them too. But they never cared about anything else like SHORTAGES and airlines parking hundreds of jets, canceled flights, delays and a host of other demands put on their pilots. Another reason unions are not the best solution for workers.

SORRY SIR OR MADAM,BUT I DISAGREE..I DONT KNOW IF YOU ARE A PILOT,BUT WOULDNT YOU PREFER A PERSON WITH MORE EXPERIENCE TO BE SHUTTLING YOU FROM CITY TO CITY IN ALL SORTS OR WEATHER AND RUNWAY CONDITIONS? PILOTS FOR COMMERCIAL AIRLINES ARE REPRESENTED BY THEIR UNIONS WHO AGREE UPON BENEFITS AND PAY SCALES,LAYOVERS AND REST TIMES IN ACCORDANCE WITH GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS,TO ASSURE NO ONE FLIES IN EXCESS AND TO THE POINT OF NOT BEING ABLE TO HANDLE SITUATIONS,ALL FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE EMPLOYEES,AND SAFETY OF THE PASSENGERS WHO TRUST THEM..COVID WAS A WORLDWIDE ISSUE,AND IT DID REQUIRE FLIGHT CUTBACKS BECAUSE NO ONE WAS ABLE TO GET ON A PLANE FOR A WHILE..THE BUSINESS SENSE OF THE AIRLINES WAS TO GIVE EARLY RETIREMENTS AND BUYOUTS,RATHER THAN FURLOUGH THROUGH THE RANKS, AND THEN HAVE TO GO TO THE SENIORITY TIERED CALLBACKS..THAT IS WHAT CAUSED THE PILOT,AND CREW SHORTAGES AS THE AIRLINES DID NOT ANTICIPATE THE PUBLIC COMING BACK IN DROVES TO FLY SO QUICKLY..IT ALSO AVOIDED BANKRUPTCY COURT BY THE WAY..THE PILOTS AND THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT UNIONS DUE A VERY GOOD JOB OF PROTECTING THEIR MEMBERS I MIGHT ADD....
