Do I detect a note of sarcasm there preach. At any rate, I contend that it is better to run off the long end at 40, than to land short at 140.

Wow. great pun with 40 and 140 !

Just a simple description of energy to dissipate, as approximated by the velocity of the aircraft in each situation.

In lighter, but crude, vein, work done(power/energy) in both cases may be equal !
But results?

Sad part is, any problem had for the next pretty good while, whether pilot error or mechanical or wx, by any Korean Airline company, is going to get highlighted, when in fact, it may have nothing to do with the airline at all and may just be a massive brain fart on the part of the pilots. I posted a smart aleck comment below myself but it won't be the last that somebody will post. Might happen to any one of us tomorrow but we are not Korean so it probably wouldn't even be heard about. Those guys need to be on their game for a while

Sure. Korean airlines (meaning airlines from Korea) will be viewed with the same sideways glances as the Dreamliner and A-Rod until we start seeing some more time between incidents.

Well, LionAir is a good example. Just about the time they were getting over that drug problem, they dumped that one in the drink on short final, and now have hit a cow over yonder someplace. With each one, that drug problem gets brought back up, even though they are pretty much over it.

Or somebody else becomes the new headliner and takes the heat off.

The BBC is slipping... it's Korean Air Lines or Korean Air, not Korean Airways.

BBC??

The heading says plane overrun in Seoul. And in the sub heading it days Niigata Airport in northwest Japan.

How do you get the wrong city in wrong country in the heading?

The BBC is the organization that published this article...

I thought they taught geography in Britain and/or that at least the BBC had higher standards for hiring and editing.

This BBC news piece is challenging those assumptions.

Don't they know the difference between Korea and Japan in Britain?

3000 people are killed every day world wide in car crashes , flying sounds pretty safe to me right now , its not perfect , but its pretty dam close .

problem is though Steve, is that if a commercial liner goes down, you have 2-300 people at one place as opposed to 1-2 in the cars. I do have to agree though, much safer. As a matter of fact, the higher rate is generally on those non professionals, regardless of the transport mode.

Right my friend, professionalism being at the root of all, driving a car or flying an aircraft. Or any other act. Any other field.
Any error, Boom!

Actually the flight originated in Seoul but overshot the runway in Niigata Airport in north west Japan.

The squawk title reflected the incorrect BBC headline. Unfortunately, it is difficult to find consistently reliable journalism anymore.

These two Koreans seem to be from same tribe as pilots of Phenom 300 that over ran at the Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie .
After all same mistake, same class. No ?
JaredMaurtua
If it overran in Japan why does the title say Seoul?
williambaker08
I have a bad feeling for the Korean airlines I mean not just Korean airlines but them all in Korea because they just can't seem to escape bad news. Maybe if they train there pilots better they wouldn't have any accidents. Ask Qantas to train your pilots because from my understanding Qantas has never lost a jet in flight or due to a crash. But please correct me if I'm wrong.

And now this. Seems amusing how the runways run out early for these pilots?
Whether Americans or Koreans. Alike!
